Disable Printables tab in Prusaslicer?

Since version 2.9 a Printables tab has been added to PrusaSlicer. This is essentially a browser, but there are no privacy settings whatsover. I' d like to cut it out. I don' t want to accidentally click on it and connect to Printables in any matter at all.

Is there any way to remove the tab from the main screen?

Simple answer is no.  https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/14145 or https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/13927 or https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/13635

Disappointing to see Prusa slide down this rabbit hole of unfreedom... 🙁

For some reason I had never clicked on it - but in looking into this issue I tried - and PrusaSlicer crashed.   Puppy Linux + Flatpak.

[Edit: On checking I think it's Flatpak that crashed - no matter.]

In one sense it's a little disappointing as this feature was the whole point of the WebKit/Flatpak adventure - which would have been unnecessary if the Devs hadn't been so keen to get rid of Perl, but on the other hand I can't imagine any scenario where I would attempt to use the facility so I don't really care.

Agreed, it would be nice to be able to configure it off.

Cheerio,

For anyone willing to build from source, it's easy to hide via a one-line change:

https://github.com/m00dawg/PrusaSlicer/commit/c8d2a4fcdecfac421b1128b35dbd76ed7232b462

Makes me irked and sad I have to do this in the first place. Some of the UI changes I really don't like (not being able to use TAB across X/Y/Z parameters for example). I'm also rather vocal about the need to bring back a save-able Live-Adjust-Z to the MK$/XL (and I assume Core) firmware. Great printers, but I think the project managers over there are not doing the company any favors.

So if I can't disable this 'feature' how do I remove all of my credentials from PrusaSlicer so it can't accidentally divulge said credentials to some hacked website?

HA HA Prusa got you, and so many more.

Delete the software completely, reg and all, then only install the portable versions and make sure to block any uploads to their info collecting servers via your fire wall.

It takes knowledge, Prusa collects your info and sells it, as well they dis-inform and confound, the company isn't run by the founders anymore, and your only worth a buck to them. They used to print (sheep) on their hardware, and pretend not to know why. 🤣

Good luck, but it can be blocked, and the software is still the best thing going for those that can figure out how to really use it.

RE:

Sounds like you've set up your firewalls: what are the ip addresses Prusa is using for this?

ps: Why does Prusa Slicer need INBOUND connection privileges but not outbound?  Hmm.

Tim sorry I'm not going to post that information here, however If you implement a packet sniffing software on your home/office network you can retrieve that information and put it to good use. Be aware that Prusa forums and Printable's tries to punish this behavior, but it can certainly be blocked and dealt with in a functional way. While I am admittedly apposed to companies acting in this way, Prusa played their cards early on in version 2.4 and gave fair warning, the reason for my Sarcastic HA HA in my previous post, they didn't hide the fact, and in today's world that's almost (But not ) admirable.

Your data, what you do and who you are, is worth more then your being a customer. That's today's world. Ever heard of "Gorge Orwell" no longer conspiracy, now fact.

Good Luck compadre, learn more, you can protect yourself.

I've done what was needed ... but yeah, this making of a web browser by Prusa is just one more chink in their armor. But then the world moving to a dependency on everything connected and authorized thru a cell phone is one of those mysteries in life, and seems Prusa has to follow that trail to stay in business.

Up side in all this is I found Prusa Slicer on Windows at some recent release now accepts incoming connections from any ip address anywhere in the world. That was a surprise. Fixed now, but seriously? I don't even allow that with games I know might need remote access.

Too many rants regarding this new Core One right now.  Wondering at this point if it can print as nicely as my ten year old Mk3.  So far, it's not even in the ballpark.

RE:

I also own several MK3 printers, original Mk3 printers, and some of them, I reverted them from S after buying S's and then bought +'s and built Original MK3's out of them, old firmware and all, and they work better then the new MK3's and anything after. I didn't join in the print it faster fad, this is just a way to sell more printers and get more people to give up their info for sale. No real advantage to printing faster, the results are worse print to print and the end result, giving up your anonymity for the companies dollar, most folks will laugh at this.

As well, most , and I mean most, don't even know how to use the Slic3r software in a meaningful way, I would challenge any user to prove me wrong. It's an extremely sad community state, controlled by disinformation and lack of education among community members. The community tends to convey poor information that they themself have not confirmed, but heard from somewhere else and without confirmation try to convey as though they know to be true.

I,m trying not to rant about this, but if invited too, I would go off on this community, it's extremely sad, and coming from the 80's, mind you I graduated then, I was part of, well and still am part of, some extremely great communities, Blender from it's inception, Photoshop, All current Autodesk products, from the beginning, meaning before Autodesk ever bought them out,Gimp, generic Cadd , Keycadd, ect.. so many and I was a part of their development as well.

I'm no slouch. This community is a let down. I know folks in this community that could show things in a way that would scare the Developers, or rather their bosses.

Hmm, Maybe some day, If we care too.

I would have simply pushed the Like button, However they "Prusa" removed the importance of likes, by removing your ability to see who liked it.

I'm sure that was all part of the plan.
