'Cut' now moves and rotates my models. Disable?
When I cut a model, the position on the build plate changes. It frequently rotates, too. Sometimes 90 degrees, sometimes just a few degrees. Even 'keep orientation' does not eliminate this behavior. (See attached before and after screen shots.)
When making multi-colored models, I need the position of the parts to stay exactly in the same place.
I am sure these are automated functions are meant to help newcomers. But when I change the mode to 'expert' it still happens. If I wanted automatic placement, I could use the existing 'arrange' feature.
Is there a way to turn this behavior off?
(Congratulations to the software team for all the new features in the cut function. I am eager to try out the dovetail and connectors features.)
RE: 'Cut' now moves and rotates my models. Disable?
Hi, the dev team rarely ever stop by the forum, its a user to user forum mainly. Even most of the mods are volunteers. Any issues reported with the software need to be made at the appropriate github repository. For Prusa Slicer ones that is https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/
The cut function has always moved/rearranged parts. Its not a new thing.
For example https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/762
or a more recent one https://github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer/issues/11262
but in answer to your question - no. There is no setting to turn that off. Its an unintended behaviour of the cut function. You could open an issue if you want. Not sure what the likelihood of it being fixed any time soon is but you may get lucky, it may already be on the todo list if they are aware of the problem.
RE:

You are mistaken, Neophyl. This is indeed a new behavior since version 2.6. Have a look:
Thanks for responding, Neophyl. I appreciate your help. (Thanks for the two bug reports, but neither apply to me.)
This new reorientation magic appears to be one of several nifty new features, which probably will be helpful to newbies. My goal was to respectfully ask others if they knew how to shut it off.
I solved the problem by reverting to version 2.5, which does not reorient cut models.
RE: 'Cut' now moves and rotates my models. Disable?
Please see my comments on the github issue (not typing it out all again lol). Now you have attached a project to work with I think I've tracked down the issue.
As I said cut has Always moved/arranged objects afterwards. The Orientation setting is purely for the place to face part of the cut function. Its just now with 2.6 the Arrange function can rotate.

>As I said cut has Always moved/arranged objects afterwards.
Why do you say that, when I provided screen shots that show the opposite? What am I missing?
The example below shows that cutting on version 2.5 did not move or rotate.
RE: 'Cut' now moves and rotates my models. Disable?
But your example is one part of the cut object, if you keep both parts then it 'arranges' them side by side. With your own project cutting it into 2 Objects moves the first one over so that both are arranged in the middle of the bed. I guess its just a terminology thing.
Also note I said ARRANGE has always been done, even by 2.5, I did not mention the rotate. The rotate is part of the ARRANGE function and can be enabled/disabled.
So the statement "PS 2.5 has always arranged parts after a cut" = True. Its my software tester training, the new undesired Rotate is not caused by the CUT function but by the Arrange function which is automatically called after a cut. Its language terminology, and associating the problem area of a bug report to the likely function responsible when trying to track down a cause.
No point searching through the cut code if the 'problem' in not in there but is in the Arrange block.
Solution to broken Cut functionality in V 2.6 and 2.7
Others may arrive here looking for a solution to the Cut tool issues I discovered. The solution for me was to install both 2.5 and 2.7 on the same machine. The two versions seem to co-exist without problem, although it is slightly tricky to install both.
I assumed I could just uninstall 2.7 and reinstall 2.5. That won't work because auto-update will undo things when it helpfully upgrades 2.5 to 2.7. That defeats the purpose. Also, you cannot just install 2.5 in a different folder because the installer doesn't prompt you for a folder name. You must install 2.5, then change the name of the folder to something else like 'old version', and then install version 2.7.
This is no criticism of the PrusaSlicer or the development team.
RE: 'Cut' now moves and rotates my models. Disable?
What am I missing?
Neophyl is saying the rotation is due to Arrangement settings, not the Cut settings.
Right-click the Arrange icon at the top of the Plater view. Untick the "Enable rotation (slow)" setting.
Cut settings and results. The model keeps its full orientation. Non-rotated.
However, if you have rotation enabled the model rotates after cutting with the same settings.

@baconfase Thank you! This is what I've been looking for. I didn't even realize the arrange button had that right click menu. This solved my issue and I'm guessing @tdk408's as well.
