C1L Warning: Crash During Large Prints on FW 6.5.2 and Older
From a certain print height onward, the print head crashes into the object during a filament change or an intentional pause.
Because of this, I ruined the Prusa helmet and thought, “Okay… can happen.”Last week I had an ASA print with a 2‑day print time… 11 minutes before the end the filament ran out. Normally not a problem — new spool on and continue… but not this time. The Z-axis moved the object above the nozzle height, and the head crashed into it. I immediately hit reset and shut everything down. More than 2 kg of ASA wasted.
On Saturday I informed support that this bug exists… they logged it, and I assumed it would be fixed in the next firmware. But the issue is still there. You can reproduce it yourself by placing a 20 mm cylinder on an empty sheet in the slicer, scaling it to X 20, Y 20, Z 329, enabling vase mode, slicing it, and then inserting a pause at Z 300. Slice again and print… but be careful, it may damage your fan shroud — mine now has a crack.
Prusa team, please fix this bug… I have large parts to print and I don’t want to rely on luck that my filament doesn’t run out.
