RE: CORE One L Kit interest

I also think the C1 was prusas last kit, they probably earn way less on those considering the very complex packaging of parts and fasteners etc, the added support (customer base is probably less technically minded nowdays than 5 years ago, which creates more mistakes), more detailed assembly manuals etc etc. And they have to sell them cheaper. I probably wont change my C1 to a C1 L if it doesnt come in kit form, lets hope at least.

Well, here's my +1 for a kit.
Imho there's no way of learning your printer better than to just assemble it yourself.

As for work, they have to make things like the assembly manual and groups of parts and so on for internal use as well right? So it's not like that is extra work.
I do get the "we don't want to expose our customers to the higher voltage parts"-mentality.

Prusa have said on Reddit and elsewhere that the L will never come in a kit form and have strongly hinting there will be no more full kits in the future.

That would be a shame, but I guess understandable if we're moving towards more complex printers.
They are moving away from one of their core values with that I think. Next to go might be the upgrade kits too, for the same reason.

I 1000% don’t blame them for moving away from kits. I’m pretty sure the Core One kit was a support nightmare for them. The printers are only getting more complex and are starting to go beyond the capabilities of people who have limited kit building experience.

There will always be a need for repair and maintenance videos 😉

Ow and I agree a 100% with you and them, no doubt about that.
It was abundantly clear when they switched to Core XY that things became a lot more complex and involved assembly wise. A lot more things that can go wrong. Now switching to AC for the buildplate etc... It becomes more dangerous and harder. Not for the faint of heart.

Just expressing my "sorrow" about it, it's one of the things I've always liked about them.

They'll still have to offer support for every possible thing that can break though, so replacing the belts for example will remain a support disaster 🙂

It's maybe too early to get nostalgic (my Core One is a tender 6 months old). But, a "curated kit" - not having to source parts myself and understand variants - was the only reason Prusa got my attention last summer. Firsthand recommendations from printer owners I know were unanimously chopstick wood.

I would also be VERY interested in a KIT version. Regarding the AC heating bed: if it arrives fully wired and has a corresponding clear plug connection or similar on the board via plug & play, then as far as I know, it can also be sold in Germany. Alternatively, I would also accept a 24V DC heating bed if I could get a KIT. Just use the technology from the XL for the heating bed (I like it better anyway).

Sorry—but I read too much about your devices not being properly assembled and trust myself the most... I would NEVER buy a device assembled by you!

Just finished a core one + build. I did not find it more complex or difficult than previous mk2 or mk2 builds. On the contrary even

The L is different though. There is a liability issue in certain countries with regard to working with mains voltages. Also, I didn't find the MK4 to Core One conversion particularly hard but then I have a lot of experience doing kit builds over the years going back to Heathkit and Velleman. I'm only speculating (of course) but I bet after the support nightmare of the C1 (again speculating) Josef was like "Enough...!!! no more kits".

Regardless, Prusa has gone on record (in a Reddit post) that they are moving away from kits.

RE:

Most recent word I've seen.

"Hi - yes, there is no Core One L kit due to the fact that at least, in the EU, this is work that requires certifications to work on the AC bed.

As such, we cannot sell a kit at this time, but I know we're hoping to figure out how to make it possible, no promises though. This is more of a regulations issue from what I understand."

https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/1qrjxah/core_one_l_kit_yet/

They said "no promises" so I'm not holding my breath, but I do hope they are able to figure something out. I would really love to build a Core One L. I've been sizing up different flavors of Voron to try to get my printer building fix. But would prefer to just build a Core One L.

I would 100% purchase a Prusa Core L Kit over a Prusa Core One L. I bought the MK4 kit, and whilst the assembly was time-consuming it was an enjoyable way to become more acquainted with the printer.

That said, I will probably buy the Prusa Core L anyway, so the lack of a kit isn't a lost sale from my end.

I too would be a customer of a kit version. If not available I’d be taking a much harder look at other (non-Prusa) options.
It reminds me of when Apple thumbed their nose at Apple II hobbyists when they introduced the Apple 3.

So with the Core One L in my cart ready for check out I decided to buy a Voron kit instead.

Building the kit is half the fun for me and with no kit available I have decided to pass on this printer.

Never heard of RatRig.  Waiting for a Core L kit with the new heads.  Have money in bank.  Will take a look at RatRig kit with the INDX or similar heads.  A multi head is a must in my next printer.  Also must be in a enclosure and work on UPS.

I agree, it should be fairly simple to design something with a standard 230 AC plug and a good cable with secured plug to the heat bed. Then it is just like plugging in an appliance. Just need to design it in such a way that it is "fool proof".
