Total Devastation
I've reprinted this code (4 bookmarks) at least a dozen times with the same filament, and then this happens.
Anybody have a clue? It it one of those "it happens sometimes, clear the plate and start over" situations?
RE: Total Devastation
Overture PETG, 0.4mm Nozzle, 0.1mm Fast Detail layer height.
Why are you using 0.1mm layers?
Cheerio,
RE: Total Devastation
The entire bookmark is 1.2mm thick. It has 3 layers of a different color on top. Larger layer height would be fewer of the 2nd color, and more color dilution/bleed through resulting in less contrast.
Two 0.2mm (easier to print) layers are usually enough to preserve colour and minimise filament changes. So four layers should be enough.
And for the background detail see:

RE: Total Devastation
I found I had to tune overture petg to avoid blob buildup on the nozzle. And disasterous tesults at higher speed and low layer height. Flow rate the big change.
RE: Total Devastation
I'll turn down the flow rate to what, 80% of what the filament preset calls for?

RE: Total Devastation
If a small blob of filament accumulates onto the nozzle, an adjustment of 2-3% is usually enough - so I tend to set the EM to 0.97 with uncalibrated no-name filament brands, since a couple of percent under-extrusion is usually much better tolerated than a couple of percent over-extrusion.
But I can't help thinking there's something else going on with your print. The sort of blob you get with a bit of over-extrusion is usually small and occasional. I suppose a single such blob could have cause one of the layer shifts evident in your print, which would then lead to the nozzle extruding filament into empty space, which could have caused the rest of the devastation.
RE: Total Devastation
This is the first time that's happened in a dozen prints. I'll tweak it as you suggested, thanks a lot!

RE: Total Devastation
I think I ended at .96 but if really recommend you tune for your setup (speed, nozzle, etc), and make sure the filament is dry. I was getting lots of blobs which would stick to the print and then just went sideways after. Nothing quite this bad as I caught it early. I agree this looks like more than just blob related, but I'm still early on the learning curve for FDM so I can't say that with confidence.
