PETG hardened nozzle

I have decided to stop using PETG on the Core One - absolute pain with a hardened nozzle and unreliable prints with a brass nozzle - both high flow.

I am at this point in my printing life "I want to press play and a perfect print appears" -  ASA PLA prints like a dream......

Is there an alternative filament to PETG at a similar price point that doesn't stick to the nozzle. Appreciate your advice    Cheers Gezz

RE:

I print PETG without too many issues on my C1. I'm using an E3D hardened HF nozzle. Sure, filament strings accumulate if the print is stringing: so PETG requires better "tuning" for temps and retraction. Temp towers, sigh. But this is common in all filaments if they start to string.

I also NEVER use the C1 SPEED profiles; NEVER. They are worthless, virtually guarantying a bad print in anything.

Thanks Tim,

I use the presets (most common the Structural 0.2mm) and eSun filaments. Changing temp and retraction settings is not unusual but I haven't tried speed profiles - never occurred to me  - what works for you on PETG?

Cheers

RE: PETG hardened nozzle

It varies by brand, color, time of the day ... I've had filament that I ended up tossing because I never found a sweet spot. A cheap off brand "Dikale" ... never again. But have had good luck with Amazon Basics PETG, Prusa PETG, Prusament PETG, and a few others. Elegoo is my current goto cheap filament, PLA at $13 a spool, PETG a but more. I use the basic Generic PETG or Prusa PETG profiles. If I see stringing I drop the nozzle 5 or 10c.

As an aside, I found some cheap ASA, but it'd been long enough since I printed ABS/ASA I forgot it needs to be dealt with on the bed side and ended up destroying a textured print sheet ... lol: tore the sputter coating right off the sheet.

RE: PETG hardened nozzle

FWIW I print eSun PETG and don't recall having a failure. But I am cautious (to the point of overcautious?) on drying. For PETG I'll drop a roll in the drier for a day before printing. And I'll continue drying while printing. But I've found eSun, even their PLA, can be a bit soggy even out of a fresh box with their clear PLA being just as stringy as PETG can be.

I only use the hardened nozzle for PETG-CF (I have polymaker brand of that). The standard brass 0.4CF for the eSun or Prusament PETG. I print all of them using the standard presets for Prusament PETG and haven't found the need to tweak.

As with all these things I find everyone's mileage varies though. Cheers
