Help printing Polymaker PA12-CF

I have had trouble pinning down exactly what settings I need to get a solid accurate and clear print with Polymakers PA12-cf.

  • - Hardened Steel 0.4mm nozzle
  • - Constantly being  dried in filament dryer
  • - Always end up with stringing and zits on seams

I have messed with the Extrusion multiplier, max volumetric speed, temps, pressure equalizer temps, just can't get it to be good.

Any .3mf files with a test object or anything would help me so much. I just need someone to/ anyone to help give me solid print settings to print this dang filament with.

Thank you,

Much larger diameter nozzle  would help anything with fibres. 0.8 is awesome for practical prints--much better adhesion, fibres flow through it more consistently, and print times are really faster.

Try doubling the retraction in printer settings.

I'd try the retraction too. The Core One profiles seem to be quite optimistic about the needed retraction. I've had to almost double the length for all my different PLA and PETG rolls to get really clean retractions.

I have printed lots of this stuff. I dry it with their dryer. It will take 2 days to dry before it can be used as this dryer is not hot enough. Attempting to print earlier will result in ugly prints.

Retraction settings as per their website. Then calibrate the filament.

I also use the PA prusa sheet.

Printing CF filament with a 0.4mm, HF nozzle. Oh man, you’re walking on thin ice.

As said here, carbon fiber filaments tend to clog more often with 0.4 or smaller nozzles, specially if it’s a HF nozzle with several narrower conducts inside. If you had a clog, you’d need a lot patience and luck to clear it. Successful cold pulls are very difficult or sometimes impossible with this kind of nozzles.

In your place I’d use a NON HF 0.6mm. nozzle and I’d really DRY the filament, Most of the problems with PA are related to moisture, As Print_Fandango says, it takes a lot of  time and high temperatures to dry well moist PA. Also, I’d use the standard retraction settings. As a rule, with rigid filaments and a direct drive extruder, the retraction length should be roughly the same as the diameter of the nozzle, not more. Increasing it won’t help with stringing and the chances of heat creep or clog raise proportionally.

Hi,

At work, I print on Mk4S.

Filament: Rosa 3d PA12 CF15

Table temperature: 105

Nozzle temperature: 270

Fill 100%

The rest are standard settings

Printable small parts.
