Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
Hi,
I'm a newcomer to 3d printing, Prusa Core One is my first printer. I've printed and designed (in Fusion 360) few simple models successfully, so the printer itself seems to be working.
I have been trying to print the "Nozzle Change tool" model for a dozen times with different setups, and it is failing consistently.
I have tried at least the following
- PLA, PETG (mostly been trying with PETG)
- Fills 10-20-50-100%
- 0.4mm original nozzle, 0.4mm obXidian, 0.6mm obXidia
- Printing it on it's back, printing it standing freely
- with and without brim, with supports..
I've also updated firmware and slicer's running on latest version.
I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions what I'm doing wrong or what I could try next? I see people printing this successfully so many times.
All the best,
Samuli

RE: Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
Hard to tell but this looks like the nozzle is colliding with the print. Check that the heat block assembly is properly inserted into the nextruder and that the thumbscrews are tight.
Also. have you checked that the belt tension is correct and that the gantry is square?
I would suggest opening a chat session with Prusa support and they can guide you through correcting this.
Have you tried printing one of the pre-sliced bgcode files?
Cheerio,
RE: Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
I reached out to Prusa support and after a bunch of troubleshooting they decided to send me a new extruder -- it's still not clear what's wrong.
Once I receive it I'll give it a try and post an update to this thread.
Thanks for the help so far!
RE: Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
since the files are only stl, you probabely sliced them yourself. As asked above, have you tried to print one of the presliced models that came with the printer ?
If you make a simple small cube in fusion, will it print ?
Do you have a spare nozzle ? As Hyiger said, that would also be my first guess = problabely partially clogged. (The HF nozzles do clog easier)
You should have a spare nozzle at hand anyway 🙂
RE: Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
Yep, I did the slicing myself.
The problem is apparent on stock models as well, though not that bad. These are two prints I made using 0.4mm obXidian nozzle. I've also tried the stock brass nozzle, and 0.6mm obXidian. I don't think it's a clogging issue.
RE: Consistent fails to print Nozzle Change tool
The bottom layer of the print has a small contact area with the bed, because of the embedded letters ( CoreOne E3d sock ), so maybe you’re having warping issues, hence the nozzle crashes. That’s more likely to happen with PETG than with PLA.
If I wanted to print this model, I’d cut the bottom 0.8mm. to wipe out that label, then you’d have a much larger contact area with the bed. Adding a brim helps too. Otherwise, there’s nothing challenging with this model.
What plate are you using .. smooth, satin, textured ?. Check that it’s perfectly clean. Apart from this, I see too much stringing in your failed prints. Is that yellow filament PLA or PETG ?. If PETG, maybe it’s damp and needs to be dried.
It would helps us to diagnose the problem if you uploaded here a zipped file of your *.3MF project. STL files contain no information of print settings.
