Thermistor problems after 3 months?

I've had my CoreOne for 3 months and the hot end thermistor has failed. Is this normal for a high-end machine like this? Prusa support seems to be non-existent - the links on the website go nowhere so I can't ask them. I'm feeling rather underwhelmed after spending a lot of money on this printer.

I wouldn't call the Core One a high-end machine, not even by a far strech of the imagination..

Have you tried to contact Prusa by chat ?

You're right, of course. In the full spectrum of 3-D printers this is not at the top, but within its class of printers it is.

None of the contact links seem to work on my Mac. I have popups allowed in both Chrome and Safari - makes no difference. Is it a Mac thing? I guess I'll have to take the slow route through email.

Thanks for the response.

Try the chat, it's the best way!

Are you referring to the Chat function not working?  The Chat function works fine on my Macbook (Chrome Version 138.0.7204.101 and Safari Version 16.6 (18615.3.12.11.2).  These may not be the latest versions, because I'm still running MacOS 13 (Ventura).  But there have been some issues with Chat recently - see this thread for example.

Do you have another (older?) browser or a different device you can try?

I’m running macOS Sequoia 15.5. I don’t have an older version to try. I’ll have a look at my iPad and see if that works. The ‘start chat session’ and ‘contact us’ buttons just don’t work. I thought, initially, that it might be due to pop up blocking but I addressed that to no avail.

RE:

The thermistor wont've failed ,but the wiring connecting it will. Mine went after about 6 weeks.

Whilst waiting for the new one to arrive I temp fixed the broken wire by stripping the insulation back and soldering it where it was broken. It's incredibly thin, single strand copper wire and does not look up to the job imo....especially when you consider a lot of these machines are sold as kits and the user will be manhandling that cable as part of the assembly.

It's wild that more resilient wire isn't used.

BTW chat is working fine for me on macOS Safari. Ive chatted with Prusa support countless times with this setup/browser.

You're absolutely right on this! The wire going to the thermistor had broken right up against the bulb of the thermistor. No chance of soldering a new one so close to the hotted so it's a new thermistor that is needed. Thanks for the input.

New thermistor fitted and everything is working as it should. Thanks to everyone for the comments. Surprised and disappointed at the poor quality of the original thermistor but very happy with the machine generally!

The hotend thermistor in my printer failed after 171 hours of printing. I'm disappointed and waiting for a replacement.

Glad you got your printer fixed. Where did you get that new thermistor so quickly? On July 15th you were still unable to contact support, yet on July 16th you successfully installed a new thermistor. Did you find one locally, or has Prusa deployed a new technology to beam parts over to customers?

Amazon. Not by Prusa but matches their specs - NTC 100k.
