Strange noise from extruder (?)

Hi community,

did you someone experience strange noise from extruder? It sounds more like dot matrix printer than 3D.

It´s not happening all the time during printing but now quite often.

Thank you for ideas.

RE:

What type of filament are you using? Did you buy the printer as a kit or was it pre-assembled?

This could be caused by the extruder gear not grabbing the filament.

Some things to try:

  1. Run the gearbox calibration
  2. Tighten the idler tension screws but only by a small amount (like 1/8 of a turn each).

Also, before feeding the filament, make sure you have a clean end. That is, an end that wasn't previously run through the extruder gear. If that piece has already been through the extruder it will be rough on one side from the gear marks. In that case, the extruder might not be able to grab it cleanly and could slip,. Cut off a 10cm piece at a >45 degree angle before feeding it in.
