Problem with autoretraction
Hello everyone,
I'm encountering a very strange issue with my printer, and I'm hoping someone here might have some insight.
I recently tested **firmware version 6.4.0**. Shortly after the update, my printer started exhibiting the behavior seen in the video below, specifically during **auto-retraction**.
**Crucially, this problem only occurs when printing with PLA.**
### 🛠️ What I have already tried:
1. **Material Swap:** I tried a different spool of PLA from a **different manufacturer**. The issue persists
**Nozzle Change:** I installed a **new nozzle**. No change.
3. **Firmware Downgrade:** I **downgraded back to the stable firmware 6.3.4**. Unfortunately, the problem is now permanent and *still only happens with PLA*.
### 🎥 The Issue:"The extruder makes a clicking/thumping sound and briefly fails to push filament during retraction."
Since the issue started immediately after the 6.4.0 update and is now persisting even after reverting the firmware, I'm quite stuck. The fact that ASA/PETG/etc. works fine but all PLA fails suggests it's related to the specific thermal/flow characteristics of PLA, perhaps something was permanently changed or calibrated by 6.4.0 that 6.3.4 didn't fully revert.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue after updating to 6.4.0 (or any other firmware)? Any suggestions on what might be causing a *PLA-specific* extrusion failure that persists across different nozzles and firmware versions?
Thank you for your time and help!
RE: Problem with autoretraction
It's not a new and Core-One-specific issue, it seems. Google finds various discussions about "Nextruder clicking upon retraction", and many hypotheses about the cause.
This post has one plausible explanation which would match your description -- specifically also the fact that the problem is independent of the nozzle in use. But it might be worth reading the entire thread too: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/729007/
(If a piece of broken filament, as described in the post, should turn to be the issue in your case as well -- the fact that this occurred after an upgrade to 6.4.0 would be merely a coincidence, I think.)
RE: Problem with autoretraction
Thx very much,
I will try everything that the other guys tried. I hope it will work.
For the next time i will make sure I read all of those problems that have been already dealt with on this forum, before writing my own .
Thank you
