Door Sensor Not Registering After Switching to Right-Side Mount

Hey everyone,

I’m running into an issue while trying to complete the self-tests on my printer. It doesn’t seem to recognize when the door is shut.

For context, I followed the instructions to relocate the door mount to the right side. Since then, the door doesn’t push the sensor in far enough when it closes. As a temporary solution, I stacked a few small pieces of tape on the door where it meets the sensor, which helps it travel the extra few millimeters.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I’d love to know if there’s a proper fix so I don’t have to rely on my tape workaround.

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. Check to see if your door is shutting all the way, mine binds at the bottom with the orange metal. If I lift the door while closing it fully, it works fine. Prusa support hasn’t been able to help me yet, they now want me to swap it back, which I’m unclear on how helps resolve this issue.

That's a frustrating response.

I think the issue is that when the door is left-mounted, the hinge actuates the sensor properly. The hinge sits more flush with the frame because there's a thin lining of insulation around the door frame that separates the acrylic panel, preventing the panel from sitting completely flush.

When the door is mounted on the other side, the hinge doesn't hit the sensor when closed. When the acrylic door touches the sensor, it's just a few millimeters away from fully actuating it due to the inner frame lining. That's why my workaround of adding a small bump is sufficient to activate the sensor. It's not elegant, but based on Prusa's response, we don't seem to have a better option.

That said, I tried a print last night where I opened the door partway through, and when it started up again, it didn't resume correctly (see attached image). As a result, I've now disabled the sensor in the settings.

When I next print with technical material that has a high likelihood of warping if the chamber temperature drops even slightly, I might turn the sensor on again.

To be honest, Prusa should probably ship the printer with this setting disabled by default.

You can move the door sensor out a bit more by screwing the sensor screw on the back side of the panel

^ Prusa support finally got back to me. There's a simple fix--wish it were easier to find in the manual... guess I'm just dumb.

Hmm, the layer alignment actually does not look great before the failure occurred. Is that just overly highlighted by grazing illumination, or is it par for the course with the Core One? How does it compare to the MK4S?

I think it's exaggerated because of the lighting and how far zoomed in I am. It's not noticeable to the naked eye.

The door sensor will be the first thing I turn off. I don't get why you'd want to even have it on in the first instance. It's not really a safety feature since when you open the door it doesn't just kill the extruder assembly, it still moves the extruder to the FRONT corner (doesn't it make sense to move the hot extruder to the REAR for 'safety'?). I guess maybe it's more handy if you are seeing an issue with the extruder - opening the door pulls it to the front to deal with said issue. But even then, it just disturbs the print for no reason. I'll also be swapping the door so it opens the opposite way, and switching the sensor/switch off asap.

I'm not finding the instructions on relocating the door.  Do you have a link?
