RE: Core One crash/restart

On two occasions my Core One has restarted when I am reinstalling the print sheet.  Is this happening to others and does anyone have a solution.

Try turning off the door sensor in the firmware under: Settings -> Hardware -> Door Sensor

Some people mention static discharge, could this be your case?

Loving the learning curve!

RE:

That's a new one to me, but it sounds like you also might be generating some static electricity that would be better off elsewhere. Try grounding yourself while holding the build plate before you touch it to the print bed.

To find a convenient ground in the CORE One itself, use your multimeter to look for continuity between any of the 8 socket head cap screws around the Z axis rods at the front bottom. If you measure continuity (< a couple ohms) between any two of them, those two are very likely electrically connected to the sheet metal frame which should be fairly well grounded (assuming correct assembly). I found 3 with continuity in my kit-built unit and could presumably ground myself by touching them... if I could remember which ones they were 🙂 . The techniques described in this thread for grounding the X/Y motor screws (scratching off the powder coat, star washers) should work down there, too, to get more or more convenient screws grounded.

There's also an accessible ground point on the LCD board accessible if you tilt the control panel forward. With the printer switched off of course, I was able to take about an 9"/200mm length of 30AWG (0.05mm2) hookup wire, strip off 6"/150mm from one end and wrap that tightly around the crimped part of the connector. (Easier if you temporarily pull off that grounding connector, but don't lose it in the base!) Then I removed  about 1"/25mm of insulation from the other end and routed the wire up behind the magnetically attached front piece so you can easily touch it at the bottom of the enclosure to ground yourself and hopefully remove excess static from the flex plate you're holding.

This picture should give you an idea of what I did...

A thin blue wire connected to an existing spade connector

...but I haven't had the problem you describe, so YMMV.

It would presumably be bad for the electronics if little bits of stray wire came loose around the display LCD electronics, so if you think this might help you, you might add a bit of electrical tape or even heat-shrink tubing around that added connection.

RE:

There are at least two causes of crashes. The first is static building up on the x-motor belt which discharges through the door sensor switch. Grounding the two motor casings will fix this. The other (which I never experienced) was some people experienced crashes opening the door. This was mitigated through turning off the door sensor.

Let me add a possible 3rd one: if the OP was walking on a surface that loaded him with static and he touched the printer when installing the plate... zzap! Same effect as the motor one build with the charge coming in from outside. I managed to do this once on my mk4s ... after that, especially on dry winter days, touching some grounded object before the printer became routine...

RE: Core One crash/restart

I bought some star washers off amazon and they worked perfectly.  I didn't even scratch off any coating by hand.  Just added a washer to 1 screw on the x and y motor.  I didn't even have to take off any panels.  Easy peezy.  No issues since and I've done a handful more prints including ones that previously crashed.

Here are the exact lock washers I bought:
