Anyone tried USB SD-card reader with high-endurance SD card instead of USB-stick?

After I read some discussions about USB-stick wear-out due to continuous write to the stick, I wondered, if an USB SD-card reader plus one of these high endurance SD-cards would be a better solution. I could not find any high endurance USB sticks, but there are some brands (Kingston, SanDisk, Samsumg, Gigastone) that produce SD cards with SLC NAND-chips for e.g. video surveillance applications.

I got a cheap Kingston MobileLite Plus and a Gigastone SD-card, both work on my MAC, but when I connect it to Core One, it immediately crashes when I start the printer. When I start the printer without anything connected to the USB port and then connect the reader, it crashes as soon as it tries to read something from it.

I wonder, if anyone else has tried and was successful. Until then I will keep on using my USB stick until it breaks.

I use a micro-SD reader with a SanDisk Ultra 64GB. I created an 8GB partition and formatted it as FAT32. Works well for me and is low profile as well. How large is the SD card? Try partitioning it like I did.

Also, I've found that certain brands of SD-card don't work. I use MacOS as well but I've been formatting with Windows because MacOS leave hidden files for indexing and the previous incarnation of my printer the MK4S couldn't deal with that for some reason. I could try formatting on MacOS and see if the latest firmware can deal with it.

I'm using a 32 GB Sandisk Max Endurance with Sandisk's little USB-A Reader since May without any issues.
The stock usb stick had a few errors within the first 2 weeks of printing..

Why bother with the expense?  You can get a 10-pack of generic china USB thumb drives, 16 GB for between $2 and $3 USD each on Amazon.com.

If each one lasts only 2 to 4 months, that is still a very good deal.  But they will likely last MUCH longer.   The people who are mentioning the supplied USB drive failing after only 30 days or less;  That is a statistical aberration, defective drive at time of manufacture.    The really cheap USB sticks have an average cycle life of 30,000 writes.  But there can be defective ones right off the manufacturing line.

With the write and read speed of these USB memory sticks being fairly slow, and the cost being really low, it is not economically feasible to test each and every one.   QA testing consists of random sample testing.   So you can sometimes (but rarely) get a bad one right out of the box.

Just buy some more inexpensive USB sticks, and you are good to go.

Just my opinion.   The right answer is the one you choose.

Completely fine with your opinion on it, not saying there's right or wrong either.
To answer the question anyway:

Why bother with the expense?  You can get a 10-pack of generic china USB thumb drives, 16 GB for between $2 and $3 USD each on Amazon.com.

If each one lasts only 2 to 4 months, that is still a very good deal.

Quite simple: I want as close to 100% reliability as possible and my 32 GB SanDisk Max Endurance + "MobileMate" was an investment of only 20€.

The printer doesn't have any storage or cache, so if there's a tiny read-error during a print, it crashes.
If I get a single crash less in a year for these 20€, I'm very happy to pay that.
Also, you don't know WHEN the cheap thumb drive will cause an error. While printing 50 g of 10€/kg PLA or while doing some big print in PCCF, costing more than 20€.
Or I'm printing a big, very detailed object with my 0.25 nozzle that takes 28 hours to finish.
The stock usb stick caused an error after 5 out of 6 hours of a print. Not a big issue, but it was a spontaneous over-night print for a friend I visited on the next day and I had to ship it to him due to the error.

I've switched the Sandisk Industrial. They are reasonably cheap for me here in the US (around $1/GB)
