Can someone please explain to me why the + model filament spool holder is better? I already remixed it to hold narrower spools so I like that it's easily removable/swappable but I don't get why it has so many different diameters... is it designed to work better with particular spool types?

Short answer is “yes”. The previous spool design was not well suited for different spool types and resulted in spools coming off the end etc. This design is much better. Plus it makes it easy to temporarily remove if it gets in the way of a dry box.

You also can easily change to a 2kg spool holder.
