Upgrade path and remaining parts Mk3 MMU -> MK4S MMU -> Core One MMU?

Hi,

yesterday, I read abouit the Core One upgrade kit for the MK4s. Today, I'm reading about the Core One L - for which there apparently will be no upgrade path, so that one is out.

Ok, back to my question, or maybe challenge: wehn I upgraded from my Mk3 -> Mk4S, I got a lot of leftover parts. All the motors, electronics board, lots of printed parts, linear rails, Extruder,... essentially, a full printer except for the frame, PSU and xLCD.

Now, should I choose to upgrade from the Mk4S to the Core One, I also get a new frame and would have to get a new PSU (it says the Core One upgrade is not compatible to my old silver PSU), so all that would be left over from my old Mk3 would be the xLCD. Which leads me to the question: for the price of a new xLCD, would it be possible to (re-)build a full Mk3 type printer with the parts left over after the two upgrades?

Not quite. Unless I am overlooking something, you would need to add the heatbed and a few smooth rods and linear bearings. Anything else?

Heatbed... good point. The spare parts website lists incompatible heatbeds for the Mk4 and Core One, but they're both labelled as heat bed Mk52. Rods and bearings - the Z-rods got replaced on the upgrade from the Mk3 -> Mk4, so those are available.

Yes, I have the same problem, but I need to buy a power supply (mine is a black power supply for Core One), a heated bed, an additional LCD screen, but the gap in quality and speed with Core One remains significant, I asked myself the question and did not continue down that path, I think I will use the parts to make a small CNC.

the upgrade from mk4s to core one reuses the heat bed (but changes the heating element with one with longer cables). So if you want to go back to an i3 I guess you could order a "naked" heat bed and use that in the core one upgrade.

Looking at all this - and the price used Mk4S's go at eBay - I think my best option would be to wait for any announcement regarding INDX during the next few months, then sell my Mk4S and buy the full kit for a Core One. A used Mini or a clone would be cheaper than the spares to rebuild the Mk3 and serve as backup printer. Thanks everyone.

Good idea as well. If you can wait, once the situation with INDX is clear (including whatever else is going to be included with that upgrade) you can even decide -based on your projected use for the printer- to go for a core one L with INDX...
