RE: Unofficial MK4S to Core One upgrade waiting list

From pages not loading, the login button taking you to the main printer page, carts emptying themselves, PayPal not loading, credit card not getting accepted.

It was all utterly predictable though - from the moment I saw the announcement of a specific time for orders to start I knew I was in for a frustrating hour or so.  It's a printer that a lot people have been hoping Prusa will make for some time, and the upgrade from the MK4S seems like cracking value, so it was inevitable there would be a stampede when they opened the doors.

I ordered a second upgrade.  I have decided to upgrade two printers and keep the remaining Mk4S.

Had major issues getting page to even load, then it would not add the kit to the cart. Finally, was able to input my credit card and it took an hour before it accepted the transaction. So, 2 hours after ordering went live I was able to order the kit. And now the painful wait begins!

Kudos to Prusa though! I don’t think they get enough credit for the amazing amount of effort they put in to giving us, existing users, a reasonable upgrade path. It would be so easy to do what every other manufacturer does and force you to scrap the old and buy the new.

I got my 4 upgrade orders in yesterday as well, after several tries due to the site being overloaded. I also added a hardened nozzle and an advanced filtration system along with cameras. I figure I could dedicate one of my printers for ABS/ASA/PC when needed, but I mostly print PLA and PETG otherwise. Now the long wait begins! I'm excited for the upgrades, and so glad I went with Prusa printers!

Ordered the MK4 to XL conversion kit.  Had to check the outside dimensions to make sure it would fit into the same spot on my workbench.  Not only does it fit, but if the specs are correct it is actually slightly shorter (height) than my MK4.  Posted shipping date was <ugh> April  :(.

After getting to the payment stage several times which refused to go through ending with an empty basket. Then the refusal to login into my account, I finally managed to complete my order @ 5.20pm GMT which was 1hr 20 mins after kickoff. I then ended up with 3 order confirmation emails within a minute. On checking my account I had 3 seperate orders, 2 unpaid 1 complete. easy enough cancelling the unpaid orders thankfully. luckily the earlier time stamped order completed, Order confirmation/invoice email came an hour later... Now the wait begins lol 🙄

I was able to order upgrade kit 40 minutes after official launch. Before I was able few times to put it to basket, but then it couldnt finish order (last button lol). Then it logout me and then it crashed into 500. Briefly after server restarted I was finally able to make and finish the order. My friend was able to finish it circa 1-2 hours after me. It was really insane.

with some difficulty!

No kidding... this was just embarrassing

On the contrary, I think it's awesome that there is enough interest in the core one that it was enough to essentially ddos the companies website.  Suffering from success as they say.  Frustrating? Sure.  But embarrassing? I couldn't disagree more.  I'd be freekin jazzed if people wanted a product I made enough to crash a professionally hosted website.

I ordered the conversion. The cost of the upgrade really put me on the line between adding a printer versus upgrading. When the upgrade was announced it seemed like a slam dunk, but as I've watched my MK4S work flawlessly the last month, the decision got a bit murky.

This is a common problem.  I am going to keep one Mk4s and one MK3S.  My Mk3S Bear works lawlessly and actually prints TPU better than any of the other printers.  It has a Bontech extruder and is slow, but prints well.  The Mk4 is in an exclosure and I hate to part with it.

I'm not going to keep any MK4s. Can't wait to get rid of them. That line increasingly feels like a neanderthal-esque dead-end street of evolution, in particular with the fan monstrosity of the Mk4S. In my hands, I never got to the point where I had trust in the heavily advertised "always perfect layer". For PETG, ASA etc, I usually have to adjust live Z down a tad to get good adhesion, while for PLA I have to adjust it up, to avoid waviness (and based on GitHub I'm certainly not alone). Unlike my Mk3S, it's never been "set it and forget it". What makes this "Layergate" more bizarre is that the load cell works great on my XL. Never had a problem, so I suspect it's something in the Mk4S hw design. Swapping that to the CoreXY architecture of the XL with the CORE One conversion I (perhaps naively) hope to get back my trust in those printers. I was even considering adding another XL but it's just too big for what I need.

So good riddance to my MK4s, I will also get rid of my Minis at this point (which will be replaced with a new pre-assembled CORE One), and then it's all CoreXY, with the exception of a MK3.5, which has a 0.8mm nozzle and is dedicated to printing just one particular product (and which is the most reliable machine in my small farm at this point).

Its been the opposite for me - my MK4s has been flawless - a true set and forget device. And if you think the fan noise is bad, don't bother with Bambu printers! Much louder!!! lol

That must be lemon.  I have never had that issue with my three.  I guess you could sell it while they fetching a good price on eBay.

Yup.  My three Bambus are like jet engines compared to the Prusas.

I wish. Not one, all my Mk4S's do it.

And I'm not alone: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/issues/4254  Folks seeing it even with factory assembled machines, straight out of the box.

Prusa engineers are looking into it, but no news so far.
