Things I like about my CORE One
There has been quite a bit of hand-wringing about things Prusa didn't get perfect with the Core One -- be it regarding the ordering process, some design issues, manufacturing quality control... I have certainly contributed a fair share of that myself, and consider a lot of the criticism justified.
But it is in the nature of forums that the problems get much more attention than the things that go well. So maybe we should have a little thread about things that Prusa did really well with the Core One? I'll start with two little things where I appreciate the attention to detail:
- Surprisingly, I actually like the door switch. I have disabled its function to interrupt the print -- but it is still not without purpose: When I open the door during or after a print, it will turn the lights back on to full brightness. (I have the auto-dimming timeout activated.) Nice touch, I find that strangely satisfying. 😊
- This may be old news to users of other Prusa printers, but was new for me: When the extruder primes the hotend just before the print, it starts doing that while it is still a few centimeters above the bed, squeezing out a bit of spaghetti during its approach. While I initially found that strange, I realized that it produces a very convenient "handle" for pulling off the priming trace later. I painfully remember how often the priming trace on my Anycubic ended up under my fingernail (outch!) and, assuming that Prusa did this deliberately, much appreciate their thoughtfulness!
Were there any pleasant surprises for you, or aspects you consider particularly well-implemented? Prints that never came out right with your prior printer, but you can now pull off with the Core One?
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I now love so so much about my core one.. I too was a complainer, but I expected the first printer I ever bought prebuilt to work right out of the box.. I have built all my other printers, and or upgraded them with a kit. But now that it is running perfect, I give it an A+++. I love the speed, the beautiful clean prints, and the look of it, which may or may not be a girl thing ha.. or old lady thing. I got great customer service from Prusa when I was troubleshooting, and I have been a fan and a consumer of their product for a while now, and I a glad to say that will continue.
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I must say shipping and boxing, as the threads started to come in about shipping damage I braced for a flatpacked printer arriving, but it was the extreme other way, I don’t think I have ever recieved a box that clean, not a scratch. The boxing itself was extremely robust and looked to be able to take a beating.
after adjusting xy squareness and belts it has stopped the headbanging game, it is now literally done in seconds.
no issues printing PLA, PETG or ASA. No nozzle cleaning issues.
I have not had to figure out where in the menus live-z is since it gets it right by itself every time.
this far I have limited myself to Prusa filament and the profiles seems well tuned.
general perception is that this is a beginner friendly printer, it has a few issues being a new model but beyond that it just prints.
using wired networking just works, I don’t bother with wifi
I added a smart plug for remote power on/off, started a habit to leave the printer in a ready state for the material loaded, now I can start the printer remote, it comes up in connect and I can start prints from my computer, see when they are ready and go pick them up.

RE: Things I like about my CORE One
Ive seen alot of happy people around different FB groups, Im not sure this support forum is a good way to judge the average owner 😀 My nail hurt just by reading the piece about the priming strip 🙂
Im not sure this support forum is a good way to judge the average owner
It isn't: most people only think of contacting a forum when issues arise, therefore the percentage of users with issues is very high.
Another way to look at it is: There are hundreds of thousands of Prusa printers in users hands - but at any one time we have only a dozen or so posters with intractable problems here - a vanishingly small percentage of the whole. You shouldn't be surprised to find disgruntled users here, you should be surprised (in a good way) to find so few.
Cheerio,
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I was an early complainer, having received my printer in March. The printer was not ready: belt tension; nozzle cleaning; X-Y homing issues... I have to give Prusa high marks for getting it right after a time. Now the CoreOne is a lot like my Mini, it just prints, every time, even after being idle for more than a week.
RE:
I've been a fan since my kit-built CORE One passed all the self-tests first time (apart from the wifi) and the full range of movement in all axes was nice and smooth and quiet. Primed by reports on here I was half expecting some resonance in places (I've had similar on my MK4S), but it's a lovely quiet printer. I've added some squash ball feet, which have nicely decoupled any machine vibration from my very rigid worktop, and it's less audible than my MK4 and MK4S in their enclosures.
I also like that Prusa made an effort to minimise the internal volume so that the passive heating works so well - I see up to 15 degrees more internal temperature than I've ever seen inside one of my Prusa enclosures, and so far I've had nothing but complete success with ABS and ASA. I'm looking forward to trying some more exotic filaments. On the other hand, when I know that the 'absorbing heat' feature isn't necessary for a given print (e.g. I've just finished a long hot print, or it's only a draft), then I use a version of the printer preset that I've created called "Prusa CORE One HF0.4 nozzle - 'hot start'", in which I've commented out a couple of lines of the Start G-code (i.e. the M104 idle temperature setting and the G29 absorb heat).
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
So now I also started printing after finishing the kit build, which was enjoyable. The setup actually went smooth and I was quickly up and running, so far its working great and looks great, significantly less noise than my mk3 that transfers up to the office that sits above the workshop somehow, prints look great and are fast so far but havent printing anything big, temp regulation in the chamber is nice aswell, and the app works decently(the cam needs of course to get some better support). Overall very happy with the C1, I really hope i can start push it with some more challenging prints and filaments soon !
-Loading filament is more of a hassle compared to the mk3
-Starting time is a hassle, also significantly slower than the mk3, I hope the absorption thing gets a bypass in prusa connect soon.
-will probably need a chamber heater in winter times, its already slow with my 14 deg workshop temps, and/or an insulating lid, where alot of the heat passes through the plastic.
-The enclosed design do make some challenges with the serviceability
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
The rotary encoder.
The one on my mini rolls every time I try and click and it is so frustrating and i miss click more than click. None of that on the Core One.
I also really like just being able to load loads of parts (even petg), make sure the orientation is good and let the printer do it's thing. On the mini if I wanted best quality I'd do sequential. Now I only use that if doing rainbow filament to ensure a nice colour change.
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
Chris, I really like the idea about bypassing the heat absorption! I am going to try what you have described.
thanks,

RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I also like the new nozzle emptying approach at the end of a print. It seems like an approach borrowed from the MMU, and it not only means there's little to no oozing at the start of the next print, but it also means the filament can be unloaded from a cold printer without the need to heat up the nozzle. Why it needs to home the extruder before unloading the filament beats me though.
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I think it expects that you will load new filament most of the times after unloading. That's why it not only moves the extruder to the front, but also starts heating it.

This is a co-incidence. All my tests passed first time as well........except the wifi.......
Kept telling me no wifi module was installed even though it was.
I thought it could be because I had installed dates small accelerometer jumper cable inside ready for calibration later, so I remove the jumper Cale - no joy - still the same wifi error.
I then unplugged the wifi again, and plugged it back in (it was fine the first time) and it started working perfectly fine! Have connected it to my network and all good.
Just thought it was strange you also had only a wifi issue like me!....... lol

Did this or any other step involve powering down the printer? It's possible that reconnecting the wifi unit might be a red herring, and that what actually fixed it was just rebooting after completing the self-tests. Was this with 6.3.2?

Power cycled twice when I first got the error - no difference.
I then powered down, reseat the wifi module, powered up - no difference.
Then powered down, removed my accelerometer jumper cable, reseat wifi, powered up - nothing.
Plugged everything back in thinking 'I don't want wireless anyway'............and it started working. LOL
All connected to wireless, files transferred, and seems to be working fine now!
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
Actually saying that - I did compete the other tests in between all the above, so you could well be right in saying it could have just needed a reboot after all other tests had completed.
And yes, I had just applied 6.3.2
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
Coming from a MK3S and a MK2S before that so take that for what you will. All my kits have been assembled by me including my Core One
I like how quiet the steppers are. My MK3 was not loud but this is even quieter.
I love the LED lights inside
i love the speed coming from my MK3 this thing is a speed demon. It was insane just doing even a normal benchy. I honestly stopped using my Prusa MK3 just because how slow it was sometimes
Good bye Z bed leveling. I hated it and it never worked I always needed to tweak the mesh bed calibrating point by point it was really annoying and made me feel like the Pinda was useless. And I’m not talking like it wasn’t perfect. I meant like so off that one corner wouldn’t even adhere the first layer and another would dig into the plate. No matter how many tries I re-seated the heat bed or even going from my Mk2 to my MK3 it has similar issues. This thing? I don’t even have to think it just does its thing
Clean enclosure. It just looks like a proper printer now instead of a Jerry rigged gantry
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
It has an enclosure, I have cats. Anyone with cats will understand. 😀
Normal people believe that if it is not broke, do not fix it. Engineers believe that if it is not broke, it does not have enough features yet.
RE: Things I like about my CORE One
I was concerned after reading about how loud the Core One is. Turns out it actually pretty quiet (for me anyways)!.
Liking it so far!!
