Recent Prusament PETG spools seems to tangle easily
This is the third brand new spool of Prusament PETG that I've had to watch on my C1 because of tangles. I basically have had to switch to Overture and don't trust Prusament. Too many failed prints. I came home 1hr into a 2hr print to this (actually this is after I untangled it and it's still a mess). I can't trust these spools. The worst is the cardboard insert where for my high temp filaments I have to use m4-63 screws to hold the spool together or the glue melts in the dryer and the spool comes apart. Why would they put PP or PA filament on a spool that can't handle the drying temperature without a hack?
Buried in the huge announcement pack yesterday was the announcement that the new spools will not be using cardboard ...

Cheerio,
About time. I'm partially sad because my long screws will have to go back into the jar.

Hi
Same issue with PLA spool
QC at Prusa is dropping

Now I'm curious... I just had a spool of Siraya Tech PPA tangle on me as well in the same way. I'm printing this out of a dry box. I don't know. If the spool is restricted laterally could this be the cause of tangles?

That particular tangle is clearly your fault - it's physically impossible to cross turns like that when spooling.
Keep hold of the free end when loading.

Cheerio,
Curious though. If it doesn't start off that way and say, 1-2 hrs into a print, it gets tangled like that. Who is at fault? It's not because how it was initially spooled. I think you got spool (noun) and spool (verb) mixed up.
It starts when you let go of the end. A few coils loosen and the end slips under one or more of the loose coils. You pick up the end without untangling and load the printer. As the printer slowly pulls filament the under-turn slips around the spool until it reaches tightly coiled layers, even then it continues to slip until there is some slight extra tightness, often at the side of the spool — then the under-turn pulls one of the over-turns tight enough to grip and prevent the slipping. Now there is a jam.

Hi @hyiger,
Just in case you still have the problem: I see you are using the same (or similar) spool holder mod I have.
I had several tangle surprises (for the first time) with an Overture spool until I realized that the cause of the problem was the new spool holder (it was too loose and "free spinning"), as soon as I tightened the central nut to give it enough resistance each turn the problem was solved.

Thanks. I did the same. The only spools I have an issue with is Prusa. All other brands don't tangle. I think it might have something to do with the cardboard insert and compressing the spool. I'll try tightening even more. I had the same problem on my MK4S so I'm inclined to believe that it's related to how they are wound.
