Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
Hi,
I created this topic to discuss about the assembly guide, and more precisely about:
- What surprises you
- What to pay attention on
- If you have difficulties
- If you have questions
I don't know it I will be able to edit my post to make a summary here, and if not let's try to summarize time to time.
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
I will start with one point that surprises me a little: the Y bearings are already embedded in an injected plastic part.
Does that mean MK4S upgrade kit will not reuse original bearings? Or the injected parts will be replaced by printed one?
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
I will add a bit of trivia first -- let's put it into the "surprise" category:
The base plate alone (single part) weighs 2.8 kg.
Cant' complain about the printer not being solid! It's the first part you use, so the build starts with a strong message. 😊
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
Build seems pretty straightforward. Most confusing part is probably the X Y construction, with the belts.....
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
First stumbling block: I can't find the third Z motor + lead screw. The kit re-uses the MK4 motor package, and the instructions state that "one motor is packed separately". But where is it?!
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
It’s a race! First one to successfully complete their build gets worldwide bragging rights!
Seriously though, take your time. Any tips you can pass on will really be appreciated. Have fun!

Aha, found it at last. Well-hidden at the bottom of the "electronics and chamber parts" box... I'll add a comment to the build instructions.

I'm in no rush! But I obviously can't work on anything else now. 😉

Tonight 18:00 there is already a first live stream of the Core One kit assembly on Youtube
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
Pleasant little surprise regarding the feet -- you might have seen it in the build instructions, but I only noticed when it came to attaching them:
All the unboxing videos I have seen, and the instructions for the assembled printer, show some (foam?) strips which are to be attached along two sides of the printer's base. Some reviewers argued that this was a sub-par placement for the supports. The kit now contains four angular pieces of solid, 1 cm thick rubber, to be attached to the corners of the base. That makes more sense to me and will hopefully help with quieter, but not overly shaky, operation.
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
Just an observation: Those laser-cut (?) frame profiles make for surprisingly precise fits. 👍
As I put the first half of the frame together (base and back), I kept checking for 90° angles when I joined the profiles. But they were all pretty exactly at right angles on their own, just defined by fitting their the edges together. And not much wiggle room for corrections, since the holes and threads are also placed so tight that the screws force the profiles into the right positions.
Attaching the pretty heavy back plate (complete with power supply and electronics box) to the profiles with plastic rivets felt a bit kludgy, but it works. Pushing in those rivets is actually quite satisfying, and certainly fast.

I will probably use at least 4 M3 screws with nuts at the corners to secure the back wall. This will make the whole structure more sturdy.

Theyll likely be laser cut, then folded on a press brake. Depending on the operator who folded them, very accurate way of doing it.
I miss my days of operating a laser, but maybe my g-coding from those days might come in handy for owning a 3D printer 😅
Good to see your progress coming along nicely, now hurry up and finish it for God's sake 😂

As many as they are making I doubt they are hand bent, they most likely have a stamping die to bend them.

Sorry, I was wrong. It's just today.

RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
I was surprised by the kit box size. Looks to be about the same as the assembled version.
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
I really appreciate everyone giving feedback, suggestions and tips here on the assembly process and I especially am grateful for anyone making comments on the actual online build guild. Thank you!
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
After mounting the core x y assembly I noticed one of the belts (teeth side) being in contact with the zip tie that holds the cable of the thermistor at the exhaust fans. Everything seems to be aligned correctly.
I worry that either belt or zip tie will wear off eventually.
Does anyone of you have the same issue?
RE: Prusa CORE One kit assembly instructions
It’s pretty close on my machine, but the belt clears it by something like 0.5-1 mm.
