Optimizing PrusaSlicer Performance on Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 Gen 9 16 Inch AMD Laptop

Hello Prusa Community,

I recently began using PrusaSlicer to prepare models for printing on my Original Prusa i3 MK3S+, and it has been a fantastic tool for managing complex prints. However, as my projects become more detailed, I’ve started encountering some performance challenges during slicing and preview rendering. I want to ensure my setup is optimized for the best experience.

I'm seeking advice on enhancing the performance of PrusaSlicer on my Yoga 7 2in1 Gen 9 16 Inch AMD Laptop. This device is equipped with an AMD Ryzen™ processor, 16 GB of RAM, and integrated AMD Radeon™ graphics.

Current Setup:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home
  • PrusaSlicer Version: 2.8.1 PrusaSlicer
  • 3D Printer: Original Prusa i3 MK3S+

Observations:

While slicing complex models, I've noticed that the process can be slower than expected. Additionally, rendering the 3D previews sometimes lags, which affects my workflow efficiency.

System Requirements Reference:

According to Prusa's Knowledge Base, the minimum system requirements for PrusaSlicer are:

  • CPU: Multi-core processor recommended
  • Memory: Minimum 4 GB RAM, recommended 8 GB or more
  • Graphics: Support for OpenGL version 2.0 and newer Prusa3D Help

Given that my laptop meets and exceeds these specifications, I'm curious about the performance bottlenecks I'm experiencing.

Questions:

  • Graphics Optimization: Are there specific settings within PrusaSlicer that can be adjusted to better utilize integrated AMD Radeon™ graphics?
  • Resource Allocation: Would increasing the RAM allocation for PrusaSlicer improve performance, and if so, how can this be configured?
  • Background Processes: Could other applications running simultaneously impact PrusaSlicer’s efficiency? Would dedicating system resources exclusively to PrusaSlicer during operation be beneficial?

Software Updates: Are there known issues with the current version of PrusaSlicer on Windows 11 that might affect performance? Would rolling back to a previous version be advisable?

Additional Tools: Are there any recommended plugins or external tools that can assist in optimizing PrusaSlicer’s performance on Windows-based systems?

I appreciate any insights or recommendations from the community to enhance the performance of PrusaSlicer on my setup. Your assistance is invaluable.

Thank you.
