RE: Nextruder vs INDX

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the nextruder nozzle part. I guess most users already got a pile of nozzles with different characteristics like size, ObXiDian, brass, high flow etc

Looking forward on how the end result will be mechanical wise. I hope that they will adapt the INDX so it uses the nextruder hot ends instead

Why? For what benefit ?

RE: Nextruder vs INDX

I really want to be able to print the first layers with a 0.2 nozzle, and the remaining with 0.4 or 0.6. Can Prusa Slicer do this yet?

I know it's something Bambu are working on at the moment. Their Vortek system comes with 4x 0.4 nozzles, a 0.2, and a 0.6 - while I'm not fussed about mixing nozzle sizes within a single layer (which would be difficult, I admit) using a specific nozzle size for an entire layer should be quite possible.......

I assume that for the C1 INDX systems g-code enhancements will be needed to select the tool head. If so, then perhaps this can be done post slice by injecting the g-code on each layer post slice like you can for color changes.

Prusaslicer already handles tool switching on the same layer.

Is this still the state of affairs on the XL, or have there been further developments?

One of the main selling points of INDX is induction heating (the 'IN' in INDX) for the nozzle, and if I understand correctly that will only work efficiently on a certain type of ferrous steel nozzles....so regular nozzles just won't work.

(That's what I've picked up from the Bondtech guys doing livestreams and on Discord.)

Interestingly enough, I think the BL Vortek system uses brass nozzles but with a steel jacket around it for the induction heating. I could be mistaken but I remember watching a youtube where (maybe) CNC Kitchen sliced one open.

I cant believe that Bambu actually incorporated DRM on their induction nozzles...well, I can actually.

I guess the issue is less the head switching (for indx there will be for sure new or extended codes for the switch) and more keeping track of the layer height so that the next one starts at the right level...

I guess nozzles are the new "printer ink"

It's hilarious but it's a joke, right? I didn't find any evidence regarding BL other than the "access control" features on general printer use. Their Jan 2025 blog post states claims are false stating "AMS functionality will be restricted". But I don't own any of their products so I'm not following them closely.

The nozzles do have an identification chip on them which will make it a PITA (I would guess) for 3rd parties to manufacture but as to whether or not they are locked down, don't know but it's funny to think about. Given that BL appears to be moving that way.

It’s sole purpose is to stop third party nozzles being sold, behind the mask of safety.

Makes me hate them even more if this is the case.

I still think comparing my C1 to a H2D is like comparing a Volkswagen Beatle to a Tesla. But after 2 months of no issues (other than user error), I'm starting to appreciate the Soviet/steampunk esthetic. Less to go wrong I suppose. Now waiting for my INDX to arrive and thinking about what to do my extra Nextruder and nozzles.

Yeah, I’ve got a knackered old Prusa Mini + here…I would love it if there was a way to make a mini core XY, with a dirty great nextruder on it 😂

Well, it does enable some nice convenience features. The printer can automatically recognize which nozzles you have installed -- and not only which nozzle types (diameters, hardness), but also which particular specimens if you have multiple nozzles of the same type. I.e. the printers knows which filament color they had loaded last.

I would buy a Nextruder-less Core One Mini kit. I'm looking at a second printer and don't necessarily need another C1.

Yeah im tempted to build a smallish Voron, get a kit with a basic hot end with the view to put INDX on it eventually.

Hmm... The CoreRon (for some reason I kept reading it as "moron"). But if could be modified to use my soon to be left-over Nextruder I might just go for something like that.
