What about doing the nextruder mmu mod even without any mmu3 unit installed ?  What would be the benefits/drawbacks ?

RE:

This installation has only advantages. There are no problems with the fine spring in the original sensor and its clogging. You just need to download the necessary files from the Prusa printables website for MMU3, print and install them. In this case, you don't even have to use a specially made base plate for MMU3 made with special FDJ technology, because there won't be so many material changes, but print the one you find on the website. It's best to print the parts from PCCF so that they are solid. When modifying, follow the instructions for assembling MMU3 for MK4/S. You can get the magnet and screws from local retailers. Even the original magnet can be used here after a small modification of the part. After installation, just don't forget to set the sensor type to MMU in the printer menu and perform its new calibration. For good function, however, you must have a perfectly adjusted and functional side filament sensor or be sure that you won't run out of filament on the spool, because this sensor will react to the end of the filament late and you will have problems removing the rest of the filament from the nozzle. I've been running this setup from the very beginning with C1 and I'm extremely satisfied.

What would you say are the benefits of doing this, considering no MMU is to be installed regardless? You're in effect taking away the filament sensor from the extruder (which would normally be relocated further up on the MMU3 itself) - so you'd be running no filament sensor without the MMU3 in place?.....

OOpsie - thought I was in the MK4s forum! lol

So in the above example you would only have the side filament sensor - still don't see the advantages of removing the extruder sensor though? Maybe it's something I'm not considering here....
