I own 26 printers.  5 of them use 9 nextruders.

I would love to understand your setup a bit better. Do you run a commercial print farm? If so, why so many different printer models -- wouldn't it be more efficient to standardize on two or three models which cover the different requirements? Or is this mainly a serious hobby -- but then, how do you keep all printers busy for multiple hours per day?

If you have already done a "show and tell" thread here earlier, I'd love to check that out. If not, maybe it's something worth doing? I would much appreciate it!

I don’t sweat little things I cannot control.  You are right that it should not matter how many printers you own.  

Maybe, Prusa will offer it without the nextruder, but they don’t know.  

Either way, I was not soliciting to buy people’s extra Nextruders.  I have been offered two in the time that I posted.  

Good luck with the INDX.  I was just trying to offer alternatives to looking at them as wasted money or parts.

Hence is why I said to “sell it” if you only have one printer with the nextruder.  I find no reason to be fatalistic about owning a part you may not use.  I sell extra parts on eBay and often make more for them than what they are worth.

Wow, wow… stop right there. We’re talking about “normal users” which have one printer, which will be modified from standard core one into indx core one.

 

Not to sound judgmental but you understand that what you say is not actually logical? First of all, as already answered by many, an unused part of different configuration is not considered a "backup". Secondly is not "fatalistic" not wanting to pay for something IM NOT GOING TO USE because i can sell it, lets say through eBay. I mean come on i want to buy a printer and start printing. Not buy a printer and then either start a process to sell the part in order to get my money back OR find a place to plug it in order to justify that is getting used. You own 26 printers. So what? The point here is paying an extra cost for something that in the end of the day you didnt want to buy. Maybe Prusa will offer a full package with only the INDX. But if that's not the case then the extra cost of the nextruder is exactly that EXTRA COST. It doesn't matter if you have 52 or one printer.

Yes.  I run a small commercial print farm that is about to get larger.  I just signed a contract with a medical product manufacturing company that will pay for my Qidi printer in about 1-2 months.   

I mostly use Prusas for commercial prints.  1 MK4s, 3 Core Ones, 1 XL, and 6 Minis.  I print PETG and ABS with them.  

I also own 4 Elegoo Centauri Carbons (TPU and PLA), 2 Qidi (Engineering Filament), 3 Bambu’s, and one FLSUN Delta (tall prints).  Those have specific uses for specific commercial products.  They have their benefits and allow me to specialize them for specific filaments.  The remainder are hobby printers.  When the Bambu’s die, I will replace them with Core Ones.  

I am planning a new building to house the farm.  I want to add a Pro H90, 2 more core ones, and 2 core one Ls.  

Would it not make sense to buy only one brand or type of printer?  Absolutely.  That is a learning lesson.  I bought a lot of them to test out to determine what I need and want.  I personally have found that the smaller Minis print 90% of the products and I can accomplish a lot more with 6 of them than my one XL (as long as the print fits).  

Sorry for the derailing the conversation.  I am following a lot of the INDX threads because I might buy one.  I like the idea of having one for multicolor / multifilament prints.  It is not a replacement for my XL but a supplement.

I can definitely understand the need for the QIDI or a H2D for engineering filaments. Prusa's only offering, the HT90, is priced well outside most people's budgets (unless you are running a business) and for $4K more you can get an IDEX 22 which has much better specs. But to Jürgen's point, if I were running a print farm I would want the vast majority to be the same machine and maybe have a few specialty machines in the background.
