Need another printer to keep my Core One running

So I was doing a big Nylon print and it spaghetti monstered. The fan shroud crashed into it and lost. The reason for the big spaghetti monster? My Buddy3D camera can no longer snap images so when I was away from home I couldn't monitor it. I've factory reset it and now it won't pair with the printer. Talked to support and the camera is hosed after one month and they are sending me another one. Fortunately I was able to piece the fan shroud back together with Kapton tape and get it to hold up long enough to print a new one with PC-CF. I'm almost tempted to print out all of the printable parts to have them around for spares so if again something breaks (this is not the first time) I don't have to jerry rig something and pray my printer holds up until the replacement has finished printing.

Just wondering if in 2025, Prusa hanging onto the reprap philosophy is still a good idea.

At least it's possible to print replacement parts for Prusa printers ... immediately and presumably at lower cost than having to buy new parts. I recently printed a complete set of MK3 parts for a friend who had a 'spaghetti' incident which welded itself to the hot end / extruder and 'gummed up' bits all over the printer. I've held on to my old Mini incase I fall victim to a similar incident with my Core One (might struggle on the Mini with the fan shroud which prusa recommend using more temperature resilient filament).

On the topic of a 'flakey' Buddy3D camera; this week, mine started to behave strangely ... only capturing images sporadically (over an hour apart). I tried rebooting, switching off & on, completely unplugging, changing settings etc but nothing made any difference. Then (just as I was contemplating contacting support), after a night's rest it started behaving again 🤔... almost as if I'd 'scared' it into behaving 😄

I had that same thing happen. It appeared to be that one of the parts came loose and fell off the side of the bed... it then got stuck and the core one didn't stop printing (even though the Z-Axis was hosed)... it then began to spaghetti and sucked the filament into the fan. Wow. That really managed to mess up the printer and all of the calibrations. It was a mess. Yeah, I *think* my Bambu H2D would have figured that out... but, honestly, I've had the print tower fall over on the Bambu and the printer's "AI Spaghetti Detection" didn't do a damn thing to stop printing.

My Buddy camera just won't recognise micro SD cards. Otherwise it works fine.

In my mk3s+ days I printed so much in hot filaments (mix of Polymaker PC Max, Color fabb XT and HT, E3D Edge) that I managed to cause the edge of the surround on the extruder that sits around the fins on the side of the filament sensor to melt. I noticed the filament sensor was sagging, and reported to support. Within a day they redesigned & I was able to print it on another printer (as it was PETG). There's a lot to be said for the reprap process when it comes to redesigned parts. (Support did kindly offer to post a new surround, but I'm in Ireland and anything from Czechia usually takes a week).

If a part breaks on another printer you are in exactly the same position. You still have to order the part. Obviously more metallic parts are easier, but at high temps the odds of manging printer components is still there in such a machine. Friend of mine worked for years in CNC machining and they had big problems with people leaving machines in an unfit state at the end of a long night shift, only for the next operator to come in unaware the next day and cause a job to manage the equipment. They would usually lose a few days as the parts had to be imported from the UK alongside the specialist staff to repair. (Medical Devices company)

So far I've had 2 parts break on me, one was the belt tension pulley where the screw seized inside the nut and I had to cut it off. One guy on here gave me the idea to jerry rig it with wire long enough to print a replacement. Then my fan shroud had an epic battle with the Nylon spaghetti monster and was vanquished. Fortunately I was able to tape enough of it back together that I could print the replacement.

Totally get it about the ability to print your own spare parts or get one from Czech rep, quickly enough. Just wondering if because a lot of these parts are plastic that there would be less trouble if it were machined aluminum instead?

Well, I don't know... if the part was made out of metal, then the induced stress might break something else. The question is: where do we want that stress to be?  I had seen some fairly smart remakes of the part, which seem to solve that issue by using brass heat inserts....

Right now the stress is in my head.
