RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
INDX release date delayed until End 1Q26 - so a delay from 18th Nov to I presume 31st March - shame

4th gen Bondtech INDX for production release. Precision head positioning, bed probing, inductive heater etc. Some of this sounds familiar, along with the pre-ordering and Late Q1 delivery.
Pre-order is not unique to the 3D community. Currently, many small to medium companies get preorders, before they build a new release. One I work with just gives a range of a year, not a quarter, for delivery and sometimes they miss that.
3D Bondtech is a small company with under 50 employees, some reports show about 16. Hopefully the final 4th try will be acceptable and supply chain will run smoothly and they can meet demand...
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
Probably wishful thinking * 10,000, but wouldn't it be nice if certain "launch partners" were able to integrate and release before Late Q1 🙂
RE:
I said this on the Bondtech discord:
"Re the specific mentions of OEMs in the announcement - I assume that includes Prusa - I wonder if following the popularity of the Prusa post - they might have arranged any sort of deal to get the first few months of batches - I guess it might make sense to do Oem releases before retailing the product for DIY users."
The response was:
"Nothing like this is planned, we want everyone to have an equal chance of getting a unit no matter the printer it’s equipped on"

Speculating of course, but I don't think it would be far-fetched if Prusa made them specifically for the C1 under license. Also, idle speculation, but just imagining if Prusa had the capital to simply buy them out.

if Prusa made them specifically for the C1 under license
They don't seem too keen in general to move things in house with Prusa? Also Bondtech seem to be really keen on high quality to the point where it would be surprising if they gave up control over production of 'their' parts.
That said, of course with a combined product there will be some sort of split between where the Prusa manufacturing ends and the Bondtech one starts.

At this stage in my hobby, I have need of multi-material prints and less so multi-color. For multi-material I only need 2 heads. I would be happy if Prusa came out with a dual head setup for the C1. That said, this is a race. So June of next year (an arbitrary point in time for me) I'm going to see what is available in terms of multi-toolhead and make switch. I would prefer it to be a C1 upgrade. But if it's not available then I'll probably end up switching. I'm not so deep into this that I have need of an XL (I don't have the space for it either).

RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
for me it would a 'nice to have' addition to be able to print multimaterial and -color using the c1... it is going to depend on the price I guess...

I almost pulled the trigger on the MMU3 but glad I didn't. Just seems too much hassle and requires 3rd party enhancements like the Core Boxx to be useful (from what I've been reading). Anyway, multi-material, single extruder designs are obsolete or soon to be.

RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
As much as I would like to have Multimaterial working in my CoreOne today, I see a clear need of combining forces in Europe, both companies can not compete against the current international competition alone.
So my hope is that Bondtech and Prusa will merge and join forces
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
Looks like my XL is getting a little sister ... 😉
A "Shut up and take my money" meme is appropriate here.

They seem to have chosen that path for the core one, I hope the collaboration will work out well. After looking in more detail Im just afraid we will still be stuck at 290degrees C at the hotend, a limit which already makes users to have to go to other platforms. Otherwise it would have been an interesting option to get upgrades on several fronts for the core one. Then all we need is a chamber heater upgrade, i really wish prusa themself sold upgrades like that for users who needs it.
RE:
I understand INDX was first prototyped on an Mk3 or 4, I doubt it will ever actually be implemented on the Mini, but I suspect we will see someone add it to the XL at some point.
How would the nozzle swap work on a printer that can't move its print head in X and Y? You don't want to shuttle all the nozzles and their tubing around on a moving heatbed, I assume. So I think the INDX will be limited to CoreXY and related XY gantry designs.
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
It's not something they are supporting in the future - but in their initial prototyping they had a side facing toolhead - with some tools piled one above the other on the Z axis - and then climbed the Z axis and used the X axis to do the tool change.
Something like this I think
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
Even if INDX was to be released tomorrow it would take Prusa many months of testing and implementing before making it available to consumers - even then we would wait 6 months for a pre-order and delivery.
With printers more advanced out there already, I don't know if I'm prepared to wait that long. That, and the cost of the entire package - after buying a Core One, then buying the INDX add-on etc - the cost would be way higher then a competing printer with everything built in. I'm assuming the cost of a new Core One with INDX in the same package would be cheaper, but would also be a kick in the teeth for those of us who have a Core One from the beginning.
Prusa need to be careful with how they play this. They are already behind in the market now, and how they price and release this system could make or break them, in my opinion.
Kinda reminds me of GoPro, who have also lost their way thanks to DJI and Insta360, who have outperformed them completely.

I think it is safe to assume that Prusa is not waiting for availability of the INDX in Bondtech's online store, to finally get their hands on a few test units. Going by the shared publicity, there is obviously a collaboration between the two companies, so Prusa will already have preseries units in house.
I would expect that the "Core One with INDX" starts selling at the same time as the "INDX for tinkerers" -- if not earlier, in case Prusa has negotiated an exclusivity period, or Bondtech wants to gather experience from a "controlled environment" before letting the INDX loose on all kinds of upgrade paths.
Will it be early enough, affordable enough, good enough to keep Prusa on the map as a supplier of consumer 3D printers? I hope so, but I share your concerns.
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
Pre Orders for Bondtech INDX are opening on 18th November I think. I believe Bondtech have already been working with Prusa (although they haven't confirmed it - only that they are working on a Marlin based printer!) and their recent blog did show what looks like 8 INDX tools on a C1 frame - and I would hope to see a working C1 with INDX on it at Formnext on 18th November.
Availability for Bondtech INDX will be by end 1Q 26 - and Bondtech have indicated that there will be no early release of INDX products via partners - so I would expect the Prusa version to be available around 1Q26 too hopefully - although it could I suppose be quite a lot later.
Also no idea when Prusa Pre-Orders would open - but maybe next month too..
RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?
*heavy breathing*
5 tools PETG, 5 tools PLA .2 nozzle, 1 for flex/pva support ...
dang it, now I want it even more ...
(Filament spools are going to be an issue ... maybe I need a rack above it with 3x Sunlu S4 Pro ... And a ladder to get to them ;P)
