RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?

I was waffling on a pre-order, but the -1 seals the deal lol, I wait to see. I'm kind of intrigued about the tpu handling more than I am the multi-extruder thing.

The way I see it, if they are really all that's been promised more will be available and others will have worked out the kinks for me 🙂 I got all my product/beta testing out for the XL haha

Can I use different filaments in the INDX ?

RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?

I was considering the preorder, but in the end I decided against it. I don't need it as fast as possible, in fact I have still a lot of 3d modeling, CAD and printing of kilometers of filement to do to add to my tiny 3d printing experience.  The only thing interesting to me right now would be to have a separate support material so I'd need only 2 tools to achieve that, not 4. Hopefully the minimum number of tools becomes more flexible in the future.

Which means 1 lucky person got the place in the queue that I didn't take. Enjoy 😉

Yes, it is capable with multi materials.

Yes, that's the whole point of it. So you can use different filaments.

That is great but the issue is some filaments have a short life span so you keep it in the machine for weeks only to find out it's no good.

I find on the XL I like to use a filament for the main print, one for the supports and one for the interface material.  This is nice for things like TPU prints where using traditional break-away supports leaves ugly surface or are hard to remove.  Since you're only printing the interfaces in the soluble material(like bvoh), you don't need much of it and you can leave the remainder of the support to be printed in something more solid, like PLA.

Filaments don't have a "short life span". They're hygroscopic, so depending on the environment you live in over short or long time you'll have to dry them again to maintain quality, and if you want to store them for longer you dry and vacuum bag them (well there's alternatives but I personally don't like those).

The point of the INDX is not to constantly have all your filaments plugged in, it's that you can use multiple filaments in one print, multimaterial, multicolor or both..

@ssill2
three tool heads it is then 🙂

Umm.... Which filaments are those? If you are talking about absorbing moisture from the air, if you have a Nylon or TPU filament exposed to a high relative humidity then they will need to go back into the dryer before you can print them. For Nylons I print them while they are drying.

Probably been asked/answered, but the nozzles are they hardened as standard? If not any idea on prices for hardened nozzles?

They are made of steel. (Which is beneficial for inductive heating due to its ferromagnetic properties -- the material also get heated via magnetic losses when exposed to an alternating electromagnetic field). Hence much tougher than brass. But no additional extra-hard coating is offered at this time, to my knowledge.

They don't necessarily need to be made out of steel, the stock Bambu Vortek nozzles are brass but with steel jacket around them to heat it inductively. But hopefully E3D will produce a diamondback nozzle for the INDX system.

So can I print abrasives then  ?

That depends on the type of steel and what kind of heat treatment (if any) it got. I don't think it's heat treated since that type of treatment is much harder for delicate/small/thin parts, it risks changing their shape. It'll still be much harder than brass but obviously be less abrasive resistant than a hardened surface (heat treatment of coating).
So yes you can print abrasives but you'll probably have to change the nozzle more often than a nozzle built for the purpose of printing abrasive filaments.

I won’t buy anything until:

-Prusa propose an upgrade under his own brand.

-The maturity is well documented.

Rushing on the Bontech offer is not a good deal, in my opinion.

Time will tell.

RE:

If you scroll down on the pre-order page there is a section called "what you get".

The "Nozzle Properties" are stated as "Hardened with CHT"-  so, if at all, CHT might be the limiting factor depending on the filament.

Haha that's not happening. Prusa will eventually sell the Bondtech parts on their e-shop.
The IP belongs to Bondtech.

As long as money is concerned, Prusa can sell under his own brand and pay fees to Bondtech.
