Intentional timing, I'm sure 🙂  I hope the timeline for offering it isn't like 9 months or something.

I also wonder if INDX is coming for XL MK2 or something as well.  It seems like the CORE One is a bit space constrained as it is, at least not without swapping out more major internal parts.

You are in luck! Prusa's processes have been carefully optimized to let them take your money early. 😜

Honed to perfection over numerous release cycles! 🤣

RE:

Guess that might explain why there is the extra 20mm of movement range on the front of the gantry and the metal bar on the front.

Seems like this has been planned for some time.

The 'metal bar' on the front is part of the square frame holding the pulleys and printhead... I notice in the image there is no bar where the bar is today.... so does this mean a complete print head frame replacement?

For 7 printheads? Probably more... maybe they'll offer a min 2, max 7 heads options like the XL.

Dunno, maybe it just takes the place of the current bar.

RE:

Maybe Im being naive, but with other companies releasing much cheaper multi tool offerings, I think Prusa has got to be aggressive with the price, if it’s too much Im definitely going to have to look at cheaper alternatives. I really need a multi toolhead printer, but I won’t be bent over with regards to pricing….i can stomach £500 for the full setup, but any more than that and it’s not going to be a difficult choice to make.
They simply can’t expect people to pay upwards of £500 for an upgrade to a £1000 machine.

Well it would appear that Bondtech have retweeted the picture, so that’s a positive…and if Bondtech’s pricing is anything to go by it could be a steal.

Seven of the current hotends alone will set you back 430€ (£370) at Prusa's pricing today. I'm sure there is flexibility in that price. But the new dockable hotends must be a bit more complex, and you will also need the docking stations and a largely overhauled extruder.

Im not sure.  If they are using the indx system then they won't be as complex (probably).  In theory the actual swappable bit seems to be a nozzle and idler sort of thing whilst the toolhead thsg moves on the gantry has the induction heater and extruder.

Probably be north of £500 but not significantly.

I think people are growing tired of dancing to the ‘proudly made in the eu’ drum.
They have to read the room and get this right.

It’s pivot or die time for Prusa.

I knew this would be teased about now. Because my core one kit just arrived. 😀

Hopefully this will be available by the time I can afford it (and I'm confident that prusa will sell an upgrade kit...)

Well this was unexpected and exciting and really can launch Prusa back into the spotlight if they can pull this off reasonably. I really think multi-tool head is really the direction multi-color printing goes let alone multi-material.  I am curious to know how this will work given how much investment Prusa has done into the Nextruder...

RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?

I guess no one knows for sure - I assumed that extra space was due to  originally intending something more along the size of the Bambu and clones, and then realizing the cost savings from keeping the MK4S general dimensions (and reusing parts) was too important.

RE: INDX is coming for CoreOne?

The INDX kit wouldn't have to include all 7 tools.  I'd be plenty happy with just two tools, covering almost all of what I would actually need.  For those who need more, they should be able to pay per tool to add them on.

I am really happy to see this, but honestly pretty surprised.  Since seeing the INDX system demonstrated, I've felt that whichever company decided to partner with Bondtech to integrate this would need to lay down a bit of pride, but that they would be greatly rewarded by doing so.  Even though Prusa is philosophically the perfect company to take that step, I was worried about the pride part.  I'm thrilled to see that they are moving in this direction.

Prusa's methods for multi material have always stuck to the "minimize waste" side of the market, which I know many people appreciate.  The piles of poop waste with multiplexer systems is frankly terrible.  This move, if done well, could be the way for Prusa to keep something that is superior in the tool changing arena.  This is especially true if Bondtech has any patents on their design elements.

It seems pretty unlikely that Bambu would be willing to embrace INDX, so this could be quite the opportunity.

The real question is if they can resist the urge to rush it to market before it is ready.  It's really hard to compete against "just works" if your machine is fiddly, even if you have the better tech.

This would be really really good, it will cost money but it saves me a XL, and the space that would take.
