I don't think this is possible, and I very much doubt that functionality will be added by Prusa. The MMU3 and the INDX systems are completely separate and intended to be kept that way. 

I guess thats one positive of the Vortek system - up to 24 colours!

I do the same as you - like to have all colours loaded etc, and actually have 3 AMS units and a AMS HT on my H2D. When I upgraded the printer and add the Vortek kit I'll have 12 filaments loaded, with an extra on the left nozzle for supports.

If you think about it, there is no reason technically why would it not work, but I doubt it would be a priority to get it implemented. One thing pops into my mind what can cause issues is that the MMU is relying on the filament ramming to achieve a rat tail free cone shape filament ending. I just don't know how it would look like on the INDX when the filament is unloaded. Also Prusa does not recommend using CHT or other high flow nozzles with the MMU for this exact reason. The INDX system is obviously a high flow nozzle type with its claimed 40mm3 flow rating.

Hey all... I know the INDX is to replace the MMU, and it's a MUCH better system than the MMU of course. I converted my MMU3 into a 12 filament version, and tbh, it works really well. It's not usual that I need to print with more than 5 filaments, but I like to leave filaments loaded and then choose which filament to use when I print without having to load and unload spools. I have all spools in a big storage area with a dehumidifier (not just a heater, but legitimate dehumidifier that pulls moisture out of the air and drains it).

I love the INDX solution, it's perfect... but now that I have 12 filaments on hand, is there a path to set one of the 8 tool heads to use the MMU, and the remaining ones just to do their INDX thing? That would give me 7 heads dedicated to their filament, and 1 that could mix 5.

Hardware wise why not. But without custom firmware and slicer setup I don't see how it could be used. 

As others have said, I don't think Prusa has any interest in pursuing such a complex Frankenstein solution with a tiny, tiny target market. And I think they're right. From all the recent issues it's clear that with the growing product portfolio their software guys are already way maxed out.

I could also see something like the BIQU Vivid (which I assume would have an open source way to control it) being behind one of the INDX tools to support auto-loading for one of them.  But yeah you'd need some way to implement the filament ramming to load filament more than once...  Or maybe the Creality CFS-C with the external filament cutter? 😀

Thanks for the replies... I am sure this won't be a priority at all for Prusa. Ofcourse, this community doesn't always wait until the manufacturer implements things. I could see someone franken-build a 40 filament system just to say they did.

Bear in mind thats a user idea - Prusa have already state the max in the Core One L would be 10.

How did you convert the MMU to work with 12 filaments?  Do you have any details or links for that?
