Filament Sensor
I imagine if the Firmware isn’t on the Core one it wont work? Or is it all mechanical?

There is a light sensor on the little PCB. Not sure whether its LED is always on (so you could measure with a multimeter) or is switched on under firmware control.
But I don't think you need to verify this bit during the build, if that is what you are after. Just make sure that the little lever moving freely, and that the magnet is not sticking out of the lever's pocket too far. (It must not touch the lid of the sensor when that gets installed.)
