RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I am pretty sure Prusa said at some point (vid or blog) that you could easily reroute the filament input to be at the top of the printer instead of the side. Specifically for printer farm setups where printers are put closely together.

You can indeed. In fact you can remove the top plexi panel altogether and just feed from the MMU3 directly to the top of the Nextruder - like the MK4s. Guess you'd have a shorter run so less material to buffer this way........but again, easier servicing in a print farm environment....
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
When it comes to the MMU3 - how many of you actually need the MMU3 and multicolour printing? Or is it just a 'want'?
For me, its less multicolour printing, and more being able to have 5 colours loaded at all times for easier direct printing without having to load/unload spools!! So, laziness! lol
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
But then I would assume there is a way to do it without removing the top panel or drilling holes in it.

RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I rarely did multicolor printing with the MMU2S. I indeed used it mostly to have 4 filaments preloaded and be able to use them without first having to unload filament. I have not bothered to even hook up the MMU3 to my MK4S yet. Which is a good thing as I am converting it to a CoreOne. If I really want to do multi color/material printing I will use the XL. Although I only have 2 toolheads at this time, till I figure out some organizational issues.

RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Allllllll the time 🙂 🙂 There are three use cases where I need my MMU3:
1) Complex "artistic" prints where changing color layer-by-layer doesn't meet the need (e.g. dragon go box below)
2) Multimaterial supports. PVB works amazing as a support interface for PETG and PLA allowing even the most intricate supports to snap off with no mess.
3) Multimaterial prints between PVB (polishable, highly transparent) and PLA (more available colors / finishes)

Prusa Core One, MK4S w/ MMU3 (formerly MK4 / MMU3, MK3S+/MMU2), 2 Prusa MINI+, Octoprint. PETG, PVB, (some) PLA.

I have some parts that use two colours of ABS plus PLA supports, and the MMU is very useful for those jobs. I also appreciate the way it empties the nozzle after each print, so there's no ooze to worry about at the start of the next job, but now that that feature has been transferred to the CORE One it's less of a consideration.
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Option 1, Option one takes up way to much space.
RE:
After re -reading Prusa’s blog post they pretty much indicated that option one was going to be the official release with option 2 possible a future solution. Liking option 2 so much due to lack of room I came across this: https://www.printables.com/model/1178997-prusa-core-one-coreboxx-premium
Bought a new MMU3 and fitted it altogether and I really like how it looks. I’ve been printing for last two weeks with it sat on top and it sits there quite happily. I’m waiting for Prusa to release their version till I complete the connection to the core one and the internals to the nextruder.
I’ve gone with these rewinders: https://www.printables.com/model/961047-buffer-unit-made-for-prusa-mmu3 for now, I might change them if a better solution is come up with but I really like how these work in principle but they do need some improvement which the creator is working on to ensure they are 100%. At the moment I have got them I’d say 99.99% there but on occasion an issue can occur but this sometimes is down to the how the spool has been wound. (so I don’t want to put anyone off).
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I really like the look, but my problem with that CoreBoxx design is the serviceability. My printer backs on to a wall behind it, so I am unable to easily reach the back should I need to service the MMU3 for any reason. As reliable as the MMU3 has been, if I has a misfeed or some other issue during a print, I'd be stuffed as I'd need to remove spools to try to get to the MMU3 from inside - thats not an option.
Don't get me wrong, I like the design - it's just not practical for my setup where my printer is in a corner, with no easy access to the right and back sides.
Hence I'm more likely to mix both solutions - so maybe use the box to only store my spools on a shelf I have above the printer, but keep the MMU3 unit itself on top of the printer itself where I have easier access to it.......
I'm thinking of maybe even mounting the MMU3 near the right side of the printer rather then the back - that way it can still feed filament in via the current side and I dont have to touch the top panel at all.......
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Release imminent!
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Really excited to see an open sourced top mount solution. My only hesitation is the "we have another, next gen version in the works." This seems to imply an MMU4 is in development, and that is enough to have me pausing on making this an instant order.
I was already in the process of designing a custom Voron for toolchanging with the INDX or stealthchanger mods, as the the XL doesn't fit my needs at the cost. If this is really what an MMU4 turns out to be, I would pause that work in an instant.
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Ok, want to see option 3 on printables. I may still just go with a COREBOXX. Option 3 seems to address a concern I have with top mounting and that's ventilation.
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
So with the third version that will be on printable, the MMU3 is still stuck behind all the spools, so not easily accessible?
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I'm going to wait for the 'next-gen' solution. The MMU3 upgrade path is broken, so should be something completely new. In the meantime it looks like my MMU3 will be going back onto my MK4s!
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I feel the same way. This announcement was a big meh. I may just retrofit the MMU3 onto my old Mk3.5.

RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
Yea I ordered the upgrade kit...and thinking of scrapping the idea of using my MMU3 with the Core One and just convert my MK4S back to single.... or just cancel the upgrade kit... and apply money to another printer...
I just don't understand why Mr. Prusa does not just come up with a better idea? I can understand upgrades ... but really need something better From Prusa
RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes
I would like to see something better from Prusa also. I’ve got a buddy that has one of those “other” printers that uses the AMS. He loves the AMS and how it works. I have no experience with AMS or the Prusa MMU but definitely like the way the AMS is integrated.

Forgive me if I’m missing something here, but isn’t that exactly what the next-gen version will be if it’s redesigned from the ground up?
