CHT nozzle clogs quite a bit when printing PLA Pro

I've been using Overture PLA Pro for quite a while now, on both my MK4S and my new Core One with the CHT 0.4 nozzle. I did a volumetric flow test and I can extrude up to 18mm^3/s before the gears start slipping. The "Generic PLA" preset sets the rate to 22, so I turned that down to 17, and it seems to print OK.

However, even when printing at a "safe" rate, the nozzle seems to clog in the middle of a print and it starts stripping anyway. I know it's a clog because if I pause the print, poke a needle up into the nozzle, and resume, it starts printing normally.

I have "stuck filament detection" on, so I'm not sure if that's supposed to detect these kinds of problems.

Also, I'm kinda concerned about the gears slipping, it seems to happen when it does the "ramming" when unloading filament. I worry that it's damaging the gears. I printed a transparent version of the Nextruder PG cover so I can watch the gears move.

My 2 cts worth: I found that for all practical intents and purposes print times were hardly significantly different between HF and regular nozzles, so after a week of printing and a couple of issues (similar to what you described) I replaced the HF nozzle with a standard Obxidian nozzle, and never looked back.

RE:

I used a lot of Overture PLA Pro for a while when I had a slower printer.  But, for me, it doesn’t really perform well at faster speeds.  I can raise the extruder temp to push it through faster, but then I get significant warping.  I’ve since switched to Sunlu PLA which lets me print faster without warping, and it’s about half the price of OPP.  For PETG, I use Elegoo Rapid PETG, which also runs well at high speeds with no warping and great adhesion, also about half the price of OPP.
