RE: Z axis trouble but only when printing
... with a quick video...
I honestly believe a lot of the frustration all pivots on who you speak with at support, I've had one or 2 interactions that can be described as frustrating, but the vast majority of my experience with Prusa support has been highly positive.
Video of what? Can you post a link to it for an example.
I couldn't come up with a video that would meet the 10 MB chat limit.
Dennis
I uploaded to mega.nz (I have an account) and just shared the public link with them. It's >100MB file. I've had to do this a couple of different times with support.
RE: Z axis trouble but only when printing
Yes, it's a bit sad. Prusa should be offering an adequate upload path rather than expect the customer to figure out a solution for sending them the evidence they ask for.
10 MByte was a reasonable file size limit at the time when Joe founded the company...
RE: Z axis trouble but only when printing
For me the issue is I don't think the new cables are actually the solution, since they seem to be the same as the original ones in terms of design. There really isn't a ton of data because some people seem to resolve it with a new cable as well. In my case, I went through support, had a new cable sent and before deciding to use it, I did the twisted cable modification on the old cable and haven't had a problem since. So it is either just about reseating the cable, or the twist, or both. Physically, the old cable didn't have any electrical defects in the wires themselves, as it's been working fine.

The replacement/new cable I received certainly isn't wildly different. No additional twisted pairs; no EMI shielding. More black vs. colors; a bit more cloth overwrap; slightly different length maybe? I'd agree that much of what may have resolved it for me was just the process of installing the cable a second time (not just reseating the connectors), paying a lot of attention to exactly how it was routed.

Hymn, the cynic in me thinks if there was a way Prusa could resolve the issue just with clearer routing instructions, rather than providing and shipping a £35 cable, thats the path they would take.
I could be wrong but didnt I read that the newer cables have a clear twisted pair for the heaters , whereas some people discovered their original cables didnt even have twisted pairs?
I don’t want to remove my cable until my new one arrives as it’s the only machine I’ve got, and if I damage the cable or introduce another issue I’m not printing until my new cable arrives.
When it does arrive I’ll have a good look at the new vs the old and see if I can spot any difference.
Could it be a case of them using a slightly different AWG for certain wires, that isn’t really noticeable ?
Theres too much (admittedly anecdotal) evidence of people solving the issue with a new cable to be ignored imo. I mean, has there even been a single case of replacing the cable not solving the issue?

I friend of mine replace his Core One with a H2D and the problem went away.

Did his house burn down? 🤣

I'd classify that thought more as rational than cynical 😉 On the other hand, they did change the cable at least slightly for whatever reason, so they possibly just want everyone with similar issues to have the same cable to simplify any future troubleshooting? I would be happier not to be left guessing as to why replacing the cable seems to have fixed the issue, but I'll get over it... Or I could twist those pairs correctly and be able to point to something visibly changed!
RE:
The cynic in me got hold of the credit card while the rational "me" was extrapolating INDX shipment dates (and when it returned, cynic shooed it away with "boy - want something done properly, do it yourself")
We'll see where this goes and whether I really need a nozzle changer.
