Severe layer shifting on Benchy (Prusa Core One, pre-assembled)

Hello,

I'm using a Prusa Core One (pre-assembled / factory-assembled version).

I tried printing the official Benchy test using the provided G-code: Benchy_Rules_0.4n_0.2mm_PLA_COREONE_14m.bgcode

This was my very first print after purchasing the printer, but the result came out severely distorted as shown in the attached photos.

The entire hull is significantly layer-shifted and warped.

Since this is the official G-code, I don’t think it’s a slicer setting issue.

Because the printer was purchased fully assembled, I assume the assembly itself should be correct.

I suspect it might still be a mechanical factor (such as loose belts/pulleys, stepper motor misalignment, or friction in the motion system).

Questions:

What common factors could cause this kind of severe layer shift on a brand new unit?

Which areas should I check or adjust first (belt tension, pulley screws, motor driver current, etc.)?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!

RE:

There are some known issues with the printer doing bad things, but generally occurs with larger parts; not benchy sized objects.

There are a set of self tests you can run, specifically the X and Y axis tests, they will check for obvious problems.

And then a simple test of extruder motion -- turn off the motors (or the power down the printer) and manually move the extruder to all the quadrants and feel for any sticking or rough spots.  You shouldn't feel anything grind or feel harder to move one way over another.  There was some talk of the umbilical harness sagging and snagging... watch for that feature.

And, once you've done that, contact Prusa and let them know you got a lemon and need help (via chat if it's working again, it may not be). Chat is only accessible from the store page, and apparently only certain browsers (I used Edge the last time, Chrome wouldn't let me open chat).

Hi Tim, Thank you very much for your detailed reply. I’ll try running the self-tests and checking the extruder motion as you suggested. If the issue still persists, I’ll contact Prusa for further support.
