Right Linear Rail Sounds Like It's Grinding

The right linear rail for my Core One+ KIT sound like it might be grinding. Is this a normal sound? How do I remove the part to relube? Thanks.

I've found it hard to record the sound of specific things in the Core One, but I don't hear anything odd there. Sounds more or less like mine. Keep an eye on the rails because if something actually is grinding, you'll marks and damage there quickly.

sounds like mine... hard to be certain from the video but this may be the typical noises, depending on the velocities you configure.

"Stealth mode" is the solution if you need to keep volume down. Otherwise, aggressive moves will be noisy, it's in the nature of stepper motors: Two coils cancel each other interpolating between steps along the rotational axis but there are other axes where the forces aren't orthogonal and therefore don't balance out.

Generally, quiet operation comes at the expense of performance (=> stealth mode)

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear. I assumed it was normal, but paranoid schizophrenia sucks and I constantly second guess myself so I like others input.

I can reassure you it's a very reasonable concern. You're in good company, possibly even among the majority of Core One owners, common sense telling "fix a small problem before it turns into a big one".

Also, some printers are more quiet than others, some steppers louder some more quiet (my X and Y stepper are fairly different in the noise they generate but it doesn't affect print performance). There's a lot of variance but it doesn't seem to mean much.

It doesn't help that I really don't have walls in my apartment so everything kinda echoes and amplifies

I am not seeing any wear marks after 3 months. I have less than 100 hours in printing so far, but have worked on/maintained factory machines before, so I'm keeping my eyes and ears open. I'm also a bit autistic, so I am very particular about noises

The thing is, it only seems to be in the center of the linear rail when both the extruder rail and linear rail move back and forth real fast, as in when gyroid filling

I've had similar noises on all of my printers - Mini, Mk4S and now CoreOne+. Sounds I hear on the videos the are totally normal to me.

Physical grinding would show some wear on the rods quickly, and I see almost no wear on mine. While I had converted my Mk4 to CoreOne+, so these are the same rods.

Please vote for my model in the contest 🙂
