Place filament on the left side of printer?

I'm waiting for my printer to arrive (in May i hope). I'm looking assembly manual and i wonder: would it be possible to place filament holder on the left side of the printer instead on the right? My current MK4S is located at the right corner of my table and so will the new Core One, so changing filament will be kinda difficult. Does anyone have any info about that possibility - especially guys who already assembled it ?

Prusa does not consider such a possibility, because some parts would be a bit different (symmetrical). In principle it would probably be possible, but in this case you would have to modify some parts at home by drilling a few holes to make them symmetrical along the axis. You will find out which parts to modify yourself by carefully reading the instructions and especially looking at the pictures. But it would also be necessary to rebuild the Nextruder parts that hold the cable. In my opinion such a reconstruction is not worthwhile. And maybe there could be warranty problems.

RE:

The left side pocket is shallower than the one on the right, not sufficient to completely hold the filament spool. And you cannot just swap the left and right side panels, because the heat bed is also not place symmetrically in the enclosure. The asymmetry goes back to the Nextruder, where the nozzle is displaced to the left side -- so it is pretty fundamental.

Hence, if you want the spool to be fully integrated into the Core One footprint, it will have to be on the right. If you are OK with having the spool stick out a bit, you would still have to cut holes into sheet metal parts and figure out a way to re-route a longer filament tube inside. I agree with Miroslav that it's probably not worth the effort and the risk of warranty problems.

Yeah, that's what i feared, too when i looked the assembly manual - some parts would definitely need to be changed - ok, print extruder parts in mirror shouldn't be too complicated, at least if all parts are still open source and available for download as they are for previous printers (honestly i didn't search yet). The problem might be side panels - drilling in brand new things isn't exactly a good idea...

Well, i guess i'll have to find another spot to place my printer...

EDIT: i didn't see Jurgen's answer... if panels are not equal that's another problem, i agree.

Someone made a mod to mount the spool inside the enclosure:

https://www.printables.com/model/1216115-prusa-core-one-internal-spool-holder

I imagine there are some drawbacks to this design (e.g. if you have to change the spool during a print), but it is another option.

Thanks. Yeah, changing filament can be problematic in this case, i agree. And i change filaments… i often print some stuff in dual color, and i always use my filaments up to last cm…

Do you have some space on top of the core one?

There are mods out there for quick access, MMU prototypes etc., so I'd think one of these would be sufficient to mount two spools.

Or just go for the non-MMU "Core Box" for 5 spools on top.

I have the same issue, its in a corner and its the only place I can fit a printer. Its strange that they havent thought about this since many setups dont have access to both sides. Maybe ill start with the spool inside the printer and later do something on the top like Raaz mentions, i have that already on my lack enclosure. Are there any links for such setups? Ill google around and see what i will find.

Yes, above printer is an option, you have the point.  I have filament above my MK4S now, so space above is not a problem, only at right side...
MMU for core one is not out yet, as fas as i know, but since it's intended to be on top i guess there are some openings for that purpose.

Some exploring will definitely be needed when printer comes, as i see.

But, i agree with Cedric: it's too shame that prusa didn't think of that...

RE:

I will have the same problem. Therefore I intend to keep my spools of filament above the printer, and feed down and in from the side.

I'm hoping to be able to place the MMU3 buffer into the right side space instead - I do not change filament very often once my main colours are loaded, so I think that would be the best solution for my setup.......

This was posted by some on the forum a while back. Different out of the box solution in some cases. Put the CoreOne on a sliding shelf to change filament.

I’m not sure i’d dare to put 20 kilos on rails like on the picture and risk that ~1500€ printer crashes on the floor… at least rails should be rugged (read expensive). I used tons of those small rails on my drawers and i know their limitations.

But, in my case it’s not an option anyway, since wall is there no matter how much i’d move it…

Mount the printer on a turntable. 😉

I am also a bit doubtful of the drawer setup. It looks like a recipe for hard-to-control vibrations. Are there drawer mechanisms with brakes or locks, so the printer at least won't start coming forward on its own due an unfortunate sequence of back-and-forth accelerations?

RE:

There are rails with “kind of lock” system - they require more force to start, but total locking is what you’d have to invent by yourself.
and, as you said: i didn’t think of vibrations, which i’m sure they are even worse on such rails.
