Filament loading problems - trouble getting into extruder

What is wrong. Perhaps my PTFE tube is not fully seated in the fitting?

Details:

I ran out of filament on a print yesterday. For some reason, the new filament refused to load into the extruder.  After much fussing, I have finally gotten a filament into the gears.  I ended up releasing the idler and pushing the filament in a bit into the gears and reattaching.

Before that, with the PTFE tube and fitting removed, I was able to manually feed in a filament. But every time the PTFE tube and fitting were installed, it refused to feed.

The push-to release mechanism is not working properly. I have to unscrew the connector. Ah, I see @k1mu suggests we use the multi-wrench to push downon the release. I shall try that next time.

Push it down on opposite sides with two fingers and pull the tube out.

If you ran out and for any reason delayed loading the replacement, the remains of the previous spool may have remained in the hot end for long enough to 'overcook' and deteriorate - hopefully the damaged scrap was purged and didn't become part of the print.

Cheerio,

RE:

@NickAtNight what filament are you using? I only have that issue with either very soft (<= TPU 85A) or very stiff (PPA-CF) filaments. I mitigated it by installing a Bowden bend with a larger radius. However you need a top mod for this to raise it up a bit.

Reminds me, I just used up 2 spools of polycarbonate (PC), time to run through some cleaning filament.
