Asa sticking to build plate

I have bought a core one for the ability to print a wider range of materials along with a lightly bigger build volume. I have done a benchy out of asa and everything went great. When I printed a model with supports, the print came off fine but the base of the supports are stuck to the sheet. Is there any way I can remove the stuck plastic easily? And can I change settings or take precautions to prevent this in the future?

You can try putting the build sheet into the freezer for half an hour - and dribbling a little IPA against the stuck extrusion can help sometimes.

can I change settings or take precautions to prevent this in the future?

Settings? No, but before printing a new-to-you filament always check: https://help.prusa3d.com/filament-material-guide

it's a wide table, you may need to zoom to see it all.

Cheerio,

RE: Asa sticking to build plate

As a general rule,  PETG, ASA, PC, PA or TPU shouldn’t be printed directly on the smooth plate, specially large models. Apply always an intermediate layer of adhesive/releasing agent, to prevent damaging the PEI sheet when you remove the parts.   On the satin or textured plates this intermediate layer is not really necessary but often helps to prevent warping issues.

Regarding adhesives, please forget about those messy white glue sticks. I don’t understand why Prusa still recommends them. Maybe they own a lot of shares of the Kores company 😊.    If you want or need to use adhesive, get a dedicated product (Magigoo, Dimafix..) or a hairspray based compound (3Dlac, Laverneer..).

RE: Asa sticking to build plate

Using a glue stick can be without any mess if you do not apply it to the bed directly. If you smear it directly to the bed, then it makes indeed a mess which is annoying to clean.

Wet a paper towel with alcohol and touch with it the glue stick with barely any wiping. Then wipe the paper towel across the area of the print. The layer on the bed is basically invisible and needs no cleaning whatsoever after the print.

We use the satin sheet for most prints except for PA and PP. When using FLEX or ASA I still use the glue stick even on the satin sheet to limit adhesion. Haven't used the smooth one for a long time. If you do not yet have the satin sheet then please consider getting one.

I can recommend a scraper for a ceran board to clean the sheet from residue, e.g. support. Just round the corners of the blade a little.
