MK4 LCD in Enclosure

can I have the LCD in the enclosure or do I have to mount it outside?

Is there a Childlock for mount outside? 🙂

RE: MK4 LCD in Enclosure

It can be inside.  I have mine inside, still attached to the printer, and there is plenty of room.

RE: MK4 LCD in Enclosure

Any considerations on why shouldn't I keep my LCD inside the box aside from the exposure of the module to higher temps? I upgraded from an ikea lack config and I had my old mk3s with the LCD inside it for 3.5 years w/o problems. I don't really like having the display outside...

RE:

I have mine inside, and it's fine.  I can't think of any reason it would be a problem.  The LCD should have no issues operating in the temperatures reached inside the enclosure.

The only minor disadvantages I can think of are:

  1. You have to open the door if you want to tune the print (like increase/decrease flow, for example) or look at other stats via the LCD.  This could let in a lot of cold air suddenly, and potentially cause problems for the print.
  2. Viewing the display (for example, to see current temps in footer) is slightly harder inside the enclosure and doors closed, since the metal stiffeners on the doors are in the way and you have to view the display from an angle.

Neither of those are a problem for me, as I'm using Octoprint and monitor the print and/or tune parameters during the print.  But if you find yourself using the LCD frequently during prints (i.e., to change or view parameters), then having it inside could be inconvenient.
