Revert back to stable firmware

So I tried to come back by pressing on the knob while starting, having only the previous firmware on the SDCard and it keeps the vs 5.

Then I did a factory reset, with only the previous firmware - same issue.

Is there a way to come back?

RE: Revert back to stable firmware

Here's what worked for me:

- Have only the 4.6.2 firmware on the USB drive at the root.

- Press the reset button, and then once I see "Original Prusa", press and hold the knob.

It started flashing the firmware, but then wound up in a boot loop, after letting it do this for a few minutes to ensure it was a boot loop, I shut off power, waited a few seconds, and turned the power back on to be greeted by the 4.6.2 firmware installed and running.

I think I'm gonna wait for release.

I did that several times, different ways and failed to come back. But now, I created several profiles on the Slicer and I can choose the new way or the old way, so I will keep it... 🙂

Also because than the filament profiles I am creating now will stay and work for a long time now.

The rollback definitely does not work. Neither method ever presents a firmware selection screen, just a message saying the current firmware is a development version.

Firmware rollback is supported and was tested.

  1. Download latest stable FW from https://help.prusa3d.com/tag/mk4
  2. Copy it to the USB drive (make sure it is FAT32)
  3. Insert the drive into the printer (turned off or running)
  4. Turn on or restart the printer, upon the boot double press the knob
  5. Wait for a few seconds, screen informing you about flashing the firmware will appear
  6. Flash the FW.

If this doesn't work for you, try another USB drive.

The double press did the trick! Thank you.

The doc says old it - perhaps it could be updated.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v5.0.0-alpha1

"If you want to revert back to stable firmware, please follow the instructions in the handbook. In short: place the stable firmware version on a USB drive, insert it into the printer and during the startup (when the logo is shown), press and hold the knob to force a firmware installation screen. Flash the stable firmware and perform a full factory reset."

This worked, thank you! 🙂

Your post on Github says to follow the manual, which I did, and it did not work because the manual does not tell you to double tap the button. Maybe update the post there to tell people to double tap for the rollback instead of "follow manual" which does not work.

I love how consistent Prusa is at not accepting that something they've said or done is wrong.

This does not match, does it.

I agree. Please update the manual to say double press, not press and hold. Just wasted some time and frustration trying the "press and hold" multiple times.

retrofit de la 5.3.1 vers la 5.0.0 sans soucis !

Je trouvais nul de ne plus avoir les visuels des fichiers 3D a l'écran en parcourant les fichiers et durant le print... Retrofit direct !

RE: Revert back to stable firmware

Finalement c’était mon flashage en 5.3.1 qui s’était mal passé... j’étais redescendu en 5.0.0. Mais ensuite avec un flashage en 5.3.1 bien exécuté sans erreur tout fonctionne a merveille !
