Prusa XL Magnetic Shelf for Flex Drybox

After watching Stefan of CNC Kitchen printing flexible filaments on his Prusa XL I decided to design a shelf to make this easy to do. Stefan improvised a platform to raise his filament box level with the top of the XL, bypassing the initial filament sensor and a mile of PTFE tubing. I wanted a platform that would fasten onto the XL itself.

Some experimentation led me to anchor the shelf with a Magswitch 95 switchable permanent magnet. This works great, but to make it a "belt and suspenders" solution I added slots for two additional magnets and a mounting hole for a 5mmx16mm machine screw which can attach to the XL rails. However, you do not need these enhancements: the Magswitch locks the shelf to the XL on its own.

My design is based on the Polymaker Polydryer box, but the shelf has extra room so it should work with other dry boxes.

I've posted files on Printables, along with more information.

This is great! I've thought of doing something similar (although have to rethink due to now having the XL enclosure and top rail not being useable for support).

Out of curiosity, why didn't you "integrate" the bottom seals onto  the plate (I was planning to do so)? So as to just being able to take it off and put on the dryer when needed.

That's a good idea. To be honest I printed about six of these in the course of developing and refining the design and decided this was good enough. Adding the bottom seals would complicate printing but I'll start thinking about it and if I can make it work I'll post another version.

I've just posted a new version of the Filament Shelf which integrates the bottom seals as you suggested. (I know that the Prusa Enclosure prevents you from using this, but I appreciate the idea.) To avoid excessive use of supports during printing I carved out two pockets in the shelf and designed separate plugs to lock into the Polydryer box. The plugs -- I call the Risers  -- are hollow with snap-in perforated lids. Each can hold about 10 grams of desiccant beads -- 20 grams total -- for a bit more drying power. I also  cleaned up the files and eliminated the disc magnets, which were unnecessary.
