There are many possible tweaks but I just put a big fat brim on the wipe tower so it does not break loose.

 Printer Settings -> Multiple Extruders -> Wipe Tower -> Wipe Tower Brim Width. I set it to 8mm or 10mm and it seems to survive most onslaughts.
