Printing text in different color

Hi,

I am trying to print a box, and put text in it that gets printed in a different color. I made it as a modifier, and made the depth so that it goes the entire way through the wall, but it only shows up on the bottom and not the top (where I want it).

What am I doing wrong here? 3mf and screenshots attached

Best,

Kaan

Hi Kaan,
the .3mf file needs to be Zip compressed and attached to your next post
If not zip compressed, the forum silently dumps the file.

RE: Printing text in different color

Hi Kaan,

this is a very odd problem

first of all, I think you have left the lid, upside down, whilst trying to get the text to show...

I turned the lid so that the flat surface was on the build plate, and still wneh I sliced the model, there was no text on the face of the box lid...
I tried a number of changes, moving the modifier to try and cause it to show. no improvement
adding a second modifier and slicing, that did't show either.
every time I sliced the model, there was one layer of filament 1 covering the filament 2 modifier....

So I tried cutting a slice off the face of the lid, and 'Hey Presto' the text magically appeared when slicing the model...
I undid the cut, and the problem returned...

next I checked in the right hand screen of slicer to see if there was an STL error marker,   and there was no error marker...   however, there was obviously something odd going on...
so I right clicked on the  item called Top_1 and right clicked to get the menu visible, then chose 'Fix by windows repair algorithm and as if by Magic, the text appeared when the model was sliced...

so, it looks like there is an error in the STL
please find attached a copy of the revised .3mf file

RE: Printing text in different color

Hi, I don't know whether or not this would help but when I design anything with text I use Fusion, I would put the text on the lid and use the extrude "cut" command to cut it into the lid say 3mm. Then I would select the bottom of the cut letters one at a time and extrude up the 3mm but make sure you make it a new body not a join. Then I would make a new folder and select the lid and all the letters individually and select 3d print/export as an STL file in to your folder. Then go to your Pruser slicer program and select import STL select all the letters and the lid and click open. You should get the message, Multiple objects were loaded for a multi-material printer. Instead of considering them as multiple objects, should I consider these files to represent a single object having multiple parts, and click yes. You can now treat all the letters as different objects and you can have them all as one colour that is different to the lid or you can have the letters different colours. It is rather a long winded way  of getting letters in different colours but it works. If this is not what you are looking for then so be it but it may help others looking to do something similar.
