Bad layers/ missing chunks

I am printing PLA on a dual-head Prusa XL, but I am experiencing issues with layer consistency.

I have tried multiple slicer settings, replaced the nozzle, lubricated the shafts and lead screws, and checked the belt tension.

Despite this, I am still seeing small gaps or missing chunks in the layers of my prints.

What PLA do you print with?Age? Manufacturer?

That looks like wet filament - how are you drying it?

The filament is from 123-3D:

This is a new roll.

I opened it on January 22, 2026.

I also dried it in the Polymaker PolyDryer.

Check your dryer is working correctly - you cannot be certain a new roll is dry.

RE:

Are you using a random seam?

How high is the retraction distance and retraction speed?

The retraction distance is set to 2 mm and the retraction speed is 35 mm/s.

I also checked the filament dryer, and it is working properly.

Additionally, I dried the filament roll before printing.

Hmm ... it won't hurt to try drying it for a few hours more.

I think you have a retraction path problem. I also suspect that you have activated random stitching – that's my guess. Reduce the retraction path. If it doesn't improve, increase it. You can also set the retraction speed to 45 for now.Judging by your pictures, the outer line is printing too fast. Reduce the acceleration/speed values to test.Wrapping is also still present. Clean the printing plate with hot water and dry it with a lint-free cloth.

Thank you, I’ll try that and let you know whether it resolves the issue.

I will also try to dry it more.

Thanks for the help. I’ve fixed the issue — the outline speed was too high and the retraction was too long.
