Z Axis noise remains after rail lubrication - how to use lead screw lube tool??
I had a loud, kind of grinding, noise when the Z axis moves. So I purchased and used the Prusa lube kit for the rails and that took care of most of it.
But I still have a loud noise from the right side when the z axis moves quickly down between about 120 and 220mm. If I put my finger on the leadscrew, I can feel the very strong vibration that coincides with the noise. Checked the screws and they're tight. There is no vibration or noise from the left side.
Does this mean that the Z leadscrew need to be lubed? I'm at 450+ hours, so this is probably needed maintenance anyway.
I've looked at the maintenance instructions which say to just print and use the tool. Ok, so I'm dumb here. Which lube do I use and how do I use the tool? The linear rail lube kit and very detailed instructions. Not so for the lead screw maintenance.
I don't want to overdo anything or damage the bearing.
Thanks.

Yes lubricate them. You can use the Prusa lubricant. I personally use a liquid gun lubricant. Has been working great. At more than 5000 hours.
If you want to use the grease and tool you just attach it to the lubricant tube and then the grooves on the printed part match up with the lead screw. Put it on and squeeze. Then run the z up and down to spread the lube.
I recommend wiping the lead screw down first to remove and built up grime. I personally hold a paper towel in the grove and move the axis up and down allowing my have to travel up or down the lead screw as it turns. Then lubricate.
If you don't want to mess with the tool just wipe some mine with your finger it'll be fine.

Great, Thanks! The linear rail lubrication kit requires multi-page instructions and precise amounts (exactly 0.1ml). For the lead screw the instructions amount to basically "just use the tool and the Prusa Lube". Didn't want to just "do it" and then find out I screwed up the Z axis bearings or something.
Thanks again.

All fixed. Nice and quiet again. Thanks.
