X/Y Not Homing and "Sticking"

Hello All,

Bought a used 5TH XL and just got it delivered.  When I try to home the printer with the Y near the back of the printer it moves a random short distance and then "sticks" or bangs against nothing.  Unless I FORCE it past that position it will not home.  When I try to manually move the X or Y axis they both hit a "sticking" point and unless I use some force it will never move past that spot.  I was able to get it to complete the X and Y calibration steps but only after the aforementioned forcing past the hard point.

When you try to move X or Y it gets to a certain point and then they BOTH move.  If I push Y towards the rear of the printer then X will move left.

  • Tried belt tension and believe its correct but not sure if the sticking points are impacting that
  • Linear rails dont appear to have any dings or sharp points

I honestly never thought Id own one of these printers and am incredibly excited but this is really bumming me out.  I was told it was from a working environment so Im really hoping its just something Im not understanding or doing wrong.

Thanks

Looby

RE: X/Y Not Homing and "Sticking"

Sorry I dont see a way to edit my previous post but when I try to manually move the steppers the left rear seems to be the one that "sticks" but its not consistent.  Like its not at the same degree every rotation.  It can turn 20 times and be fine but then when the X is near the center and I try to move Y forward it gets hard.

RE: X/Y Not Homing and "Sticking"

oook back with more details to hopefully help anyone who might be able to provide guidance.

When manually moving the head diagonally from Left Rear to Right front and ONLY the right motor spinning there are no issues.  Smooth movement can be made with one finger along the entire diagonal direction across the bed.

When manually moving the head diagonally from RIGHT Rear to LEFT front and ONLY the LEFT motor spinning it sticks/jams/hangs up REPEATEDLY across the travel.  Watching the motor its not sticking at the same spot in its rotation though....  I could understand if maybe the motor had a bad spot or something but it can spin several times without sticking and then jam...

Im really hoping someone can provide some kind of help.
