Wiping Tower XL5T
Hello Together,
I have recently problems with wiping towers on my printer.
At every print with multi color nozzles, the tower does not stick to the print bed and then falls over.
The first layer of the printed object is perfecly and there is no visual issue.
Could please tell me someone what is wrong with this?
All nozzles are calibrated and if im printing with only one nozzle there is no issue.
Thanks
Tim
Make sure that area of the print sheet is thoroughly clean.
You also have the option of wipe into infill or to have a colour-doesn't-matter wipe into object.
Cheerio,

Thanks for your fast reply,
my bed is cleaned i cleaned it with isopropanol alcohol.
Okay nice idea.
Sometimes I am printing with pva and thats not good if its wiped into the object or infill.
So there has to be an option where my wiping tower doesnt fall over erverytime.
You could try increasing the value in:
Print Settings > Multiple Extruders > Wipe Tower Brim Width
- you may need to be in expert mode.
Cheerio,

Okay thanks ill try.
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
Is the tower detaching at the bed, or above. I've not yet experienced a single tower failure.
Another thing to consider is under the multiple extruder section you can choose the default extruder for the wipe tower. What this will do is always print the perimeter of the tower with the same extruder. This is really important if your printing 2 different materials that don't stick well to one another.
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
The tower is detaching at various bed heights,
sometimes close to the bottom sometimes at heights to 40mm
I will make a Timelapse for you.
The second point you mentioned Ill try this evening may this helps.
RE:
Here I have the sequence of a timelapse where it happens.
Thank you.

I've had wipe tower issues with multi material prints but have not seen this with multi-color. I like the idea of adding more brim. Does the wipe tower itself look okay, so it's just the whole thing coming off? Or do you see artifacts in the tower?

We're you setting the purge tower extruder? I have done both PETG/PLA and PETG/TPU and not had issues. I always put the main material as the extruder for the purge tower. Then it prints all other materials on the inside. And the main for the structure.
In my case you also need to make sure to change the bed temp for the other materials to the temp of the main. AKA set the pla bed temp to that of petg.

Yes, and most of the time that works fine. But I did have a few cases (mostly PETG inside of a PLA wipe tower case) where the tower got destroyed nonetheless.

Hi, this issue is in every case.
with PLA, PLA or PLA, PVA Ill try adding more brim.
The complete Tower falls off as you can see in my Video.
I posted it yesterday evening but it says ,,awaiting Moderation“.
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
Yeah you mentiomed it earlier and then Ive tried.
no difference
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
I had the same issue. In pla where I used pla, pla-cf and pla-copper, the pla copper is very brittle and the wipe tower does not stick to the plate or falls over during the print. I increased the wipe tower size because of problems with the pla copper but still it did not stick.
Now I use 3d-lac at the spot of the wipe tower and now it sticks properly.
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
Dlac, Layerneer, Magigoo, etc. They're your friend.

Out of curiosity, what sheet are you guys using?
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
I for one use textured exclusively on my XL.

RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
on the XL I use textured (from Prusa), on my bambu x1c also textured
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
I personally feel that's a big portion of the adhesion issue. I almost never use the textured because it's bed adhesion is inferior to the satin and PEI sheet. If I'm printing PLA I use the PEI sheet and the satin for PETG. I even use the PEI sheet for ASA, but put down glue stick first. I do this because it sticks really well to the PEI, I mean almost too good. You have to be very cautious removing the parts and make sure everything is completely coolef to room temp. It does tend to lift the PEI some, bit after a few heat cycles it self repairs. Sorry I'm digressing.....
Now I'm not saying the textured sheet is unusable, but the bed adhesion is not near that of the other 2 sheets and could be contributing to tower failure.
The other reason I don't personally like the textured sheet is because it only leaves a textured surface on 1 side of the part, which I think looks odd. The other 2 sheets make the party more uniform looking. But that's just my opinion.
RE: Wiping Tower XL5T
I'm not really disagreeing about satin being superior in many ways. I use satin a lot too on my other printers but for the stuff I'm printing on the XL textured produces the best surface effect. And the main objects print just fine.
