Wifi NO AP

I've only been able to get my XL to successful connect to my phone.  My home router is a mesh. The 2.4 and 5 line have the same names.  Haven't been an issue with anything else and XL does see it.  But it just says link down.  Don't know why.

So I purchased another router.  A nice clear 2.4 ssid to use.  It tries to connect for less than a second and stops.  It will not even try to connect to it.   I've restarted and power cycled the printer.  Doesn't matter, it will not even try to connect to that network.

I made sure the password is all lowercase and numbers only.  SSID is letters only.  I would have called the wifi broken but it connects to my phone.

I presume Prusa only fitted wifi because so many non tech-savvy users were misguidedly calling for it.  Fitting a radio device to a large chunk of earthed metal with moving parts is asking for problems.

Try running a cat 5/6 cable to it and bypass the problem.

RE: Wifi NO AP

I hope they realize this means I'm never buy their buddy wifi camera because my printer doesn't have a working wifi.

I just tried installing alpha fw 6.2.  I was connected.  Sending packages.  Got it on connect and then it went back off.  Link down, never came back on.  Tried to restart the wizard and now it's back to no ap.  I'll be honest.. I'm not at all happy with this.  I do wonder if the side one would work better.

Try moving wifi connections away from the printer - think about it, you establish a connection, start the printer, then the printer moves and blocks the transmission path, or, more subtly, places a metal part where it reflects the signal so that it interferes with itself.  If you must use wifi it can help to mount the AP as high as possible, on the ceiling is often best.

It's daft to rely on wifi in a machine shop but users call for it and always have to learn the hard way.

You're not wrong. I'm hardwired now.  It's all connected and most likely 10x more stable.  Most of my printers just raspberry pis.  If they lose connection it's no big deal.  The pi still knows what to do.  But buddy boards and pi's don't mix.

Their new camera requires wifi and as far as my experience goes it's DOA with that requirement.

If it's really close and line of sight, set up the Pi as an AP.
