RE: USB error mid print

I downgraded my FW as well but I eventually had the same issue on 5.X, including an error where the carriage would just crash onto the side and cause the tool head to drop onto the bed (could be a coincidence but saw someone else online had the same issue). I’m now back on 6.0.2 waiting for replacement parts

RE: USB error mid print

Just wanted to chime in that I'm also having this problem. This is basically a new five head XL system (2 weeks old) running 6.02 firmware. I've just had the "USB drive or file error" for what I believe is the forth time now. This one killed an 18 hour print half way through. My printer is in an air conditioned room maintained at 72-75F (22-24C). Extremely frustrating! Doubly so that it can not be resolved from Prusa Connect which says unhelpfully, "Reconnect the drive" which is a 30 minute drive from home...

RE: USB error mid print

Guys - I do not know if it is related to change of xLCD, but I was printing TPU wheel for my garden robot. 20h print - four times error regarding USB. Every time different time, different setup, different USB, different type of upload (Prusa Connect, copy to USB drive etc.) - after full weekend of chating with support, they finally send me new xLCD and cables. I reasembled them start printing this TPU wheel over Prusa Connect and first run no error. Now I am printing second one and I would see after another 20h, nevertheless it could be only funny luck that after changing xLCD it did not make error, but I think that this error is somehow related to xLCD and the cable. We would see.

If it is not a problem could you give as a brief explanation what was causing it? Also as an added note i noticed, that sometimes the usb data seem corrupted when i plug it on my pc. Was this part of the same problem?

That is awesome in deed!

Also - I am really interested in the cause as well as I tried to analyze the problem from the software side myself and it would be interesting to see what it was in the end!

Very happy to hear that you are working on it! While we are waiting, what am I supposed to do? Continue wasting filament in the hope that my prints might work? Any information that you can provide that would be a work around while waiting would be immensely useful as right now I feel I have a $5000 paper weight.

Jan, just a word of caution, I'm still skeptical that the problem is related to the USB port , and the USB error may be a symptom of a larger issue.  For instance, I have never had a USB error. My printer just stops mid-print.  I have also tried all the fixes mentioned here, and it still happens (including using octoprint hooked up to the back port else everything else is turned off).  I even switched my LCD board with my upgraded MK3.5 still happens.  Is there a more robust logging we can turn on to help you hone in on the problem?  Is there anything I can do to help you figure it out?

Thanks Jan, super nice to read this! My printer has not error'd again, only change was I removed cover of the board in the back so it's a bit cooler.

One question - why not share with us what is the problem you have found, and the nature of the fix? Will be interesting to know, and might also help us mitigate while we wait for the fix, no?

Me... waiting for some ferrite cores as someone suggested to put these in LCD flat cable to help mitigate EM interference... this is just me wanting to try about anything... 🙁

RE:

After intensive tests my last hope is failure is due to prusaconnect file transmission, if not, it is a firmware or buddy board problem. Yesterday I get usb error so i can confirm this changes dont solved it:

- back cover fan (It is recommended even it is not solution).

- Firmware 6.0.2

- New usb Cable

- New LCD/board

- New Pendrive

Until this moment I never had a problem with direct file copy to pendrive but we will see....

Two more failures past 3 days. Filling a second bag of wasted parts.

Last one happened at 9% after installing a ferrite core (suggestion from FB group) on the wire bundle.

Contacted Prusa support for something else, he was aware of this topic, told me fix is coming, it is in testing... He suggested changing screen with my MK4 to rule that out, will try in weekend.

RE:

Hi all,

Following this thread since my XL is having the same issue, and I want to get the update once it's fixed. I've had my 5TH since October, and it started having this USB read error in the past month or two. It seems to be becoming more frequent. The first time it happened, I happened to have my sliced file still open in prusa slicer, and the print started up again when I resliced it and replaced the file in the USB drive. However, that fix hasn't worked every time.

With my current print, I tried updating the firmware (didn't work). After reading through the ideas here, disabling prusalink and prusa connect worked and got it started up again. Fingers crossed that it finishes.

Interestingly, my wifi credentials changed for a while, so my XL wasn't connected to the internet or prusa connect. But it still happened.

I think though I might have to put the XL in time out until we get that firmware update. Can't risk losing these big prints.

RE:

After swapping MK4 screen with XL's, the problem still happened near end of the 4 hour print - which we did as a 'ghost print', without filament. I don't want to exchange the cables as that is much more painful...

Super, super helpful support person from Prusa, also helped me troubleshoot another problem on MK4 and send me replacement for problematic XL side filament sensor.

Andorra, your story is same as mine. Beautifully working printer and a couple months ago started with this problem and to get worse. As well, I tried the disabling Prusa Link/Connect, many many USBs, reflashing, etc. I suggest you get in touch with Prusa support. They are making me try things I have not seen suggested online, it does show them the incidence of this problem and it might help them understand problem.

RE: USB error mid print

I reached out to support and they are sending me a new screen, cables, and USB. Considering what I've heard here, I am not certain that will fix the issue, but I do appreciate their helpfulness.

This is still happening in firmware 6.0.1. I have tried 9 different USB drives, taken the printer apart and reseated cables as instructed by support. Failed again about 75% done a 2 hour print. It sits there looking like a brick.

So I wanted to check in. After replacing the lcd and ribbon cable, the issue is still there. Have been told to wait for the updated firmware release. Fingers crossed it comes out soon!

My latest fail was 86% complete on a 12 hour square print. I am on  firmware 6.0.1. I have tried over 8 USB drives. (obviously 8 or more failures). All the USB drives/models work flawlessly on my MK4.  I have done the reseating and cable inspection as directed by Prusa support. No resolution yet.

I have put a ferrite choke on the LCD cable, I suspect that it is "noise" EMI? that disturbs the signal. Have been printing for 7 days now and all prints have gone without problems. Just to check if it's luck and it has no effect anyway, does anyone else want to try the same "trick"?

Hi Would you have a link for the model / type of ferrite choke  you used?
