Story on O-rings?

I see a number of posts referring to "upgraded O-rings".  Would some patient person explain what O-rings these are, and what the upgrade was about?  I assume the O-rings currently being sold on Prusa's website are the new ones?

I'm looking to reprint some PETG parts in PCCF.  My printer is January 2024, so apparently "old O-rings".

Thanks in advance!

RE:

My understanding  is the o rings are part of the heat bed tile connections.  I think they degrade

seems the tiles are held to the bed with tons of tiny screws.  Each screw has a small silicone or some other material ring

they fall apart after your warranty expires 🙂

Can you tell I am annoyed that they never gave little early reserves a chance to purchase an extended warranty?

RE:

The o rings are also used by the belt pulleys I think? Maybe they have changed sizes, which meant changes to the printed parts, due to supply issues of the original ones or was there an issue that the newer ones correct?

It would be super helpful to be able to look at a list of changes to the machines and the reasons why to help us decide if we want to apply those upgrades.

Yeah, this is exactly why I'm asking ... not to mention the last thing I want is to have my printer all pulled apart to upgrade to PCCF parts, then discover something doesn't fit because of a change I didn't know about!

So far the only way I've seen is to check for updated printed parts, since the date of your machine and keep a track that way of changes.

Oh.. and I presume when an XLS comes about they will provide all the updates like they have with the i3 generation in the past.

Hey,

Prusa changed the O-rings at the idlers. The old ones are thinner. The new ones are 1,2mm thick. If you want to replace parts, use the new o-ring version :)  https://prusa.io/ring

Prusa added the new oring parts on 11th Sep. 2024 here in the CoreXY sections: https://www.printables.com/model/449554-xl-printable-parts/files

Thats all i know at the moment.

RE: Story on O-rings?

I am currently reprinting all of the core xy parts in PCCF and installing the new o-rings.  I'm adding a toothed pulley to each side where currently the toothed portion on the belt runs over a smooth pulley and decided I'd upgrade all of the parts from PETG while I was at it.  The genuine Gates pulley is 1mm thicker than the original smooth pulley, hence the reason I had to reprint the gantry parts.  I took the new version of the parts and increased the openings for the toothed pulley by an additional 1mm to compensate.

There were Chinese toothed pulleys that were the same size as the Prusa ones, but since it's a fair bit of work to change them I decided to spend a few extra dollars and get the gates ones.

Comparing the original and the new parts the openings for the original pulleys are 1mm taller, so with the new o-rings they must take up an additional .5 mm of space each.

I don't know how true it is, but a poster on reddit showed a response from Prusa technical support saying that there were issues with clearance on the original o-rings, which was the reason they changed them. Not sure how true this is as my machine was running fine with the old o-rings.

RE: Story on O-rings?

Upon disassembly the original o-rings that I'm removing seemed to be disintegrating.  I was not having any problems on my printer, but I could see over time the o-rings could completely wear out causing issues.  I read somewhere that they changed the material of the o-rings as well, but this is just rumor.

FYI.
